Just being a noob here smile.gif I've been seeing a lot of discussion on the 50mm f1.8 lens. Can someone please help explain what's the advantage of a 50mm lens?
*
it is the f/1.8 which peopl craved for, if i'm not mistaken

QUOTE(hornetEJ @ Dec 24 2007, 10:09 AM)
Does that mean u cannot zoom in and out with a 50mm lens?
*
Nope. There is no zoom capability for this lens

and the nice BOKEH (blur foreground / background) you can get out of it due to the high aperture.

dear seniors... notworthy.gif I would like to know that, if I am using 50mm to snap the photos during the wedding dinner, is it advisable to set the lowest aperture? i mean since it can goes till f1.8, so shall I just use it to the lowest aperture? or it still depends on the lighting and etc etc?
*
No. You will screw up the DoF. Set it to 2.8 or above. It should be fine..

sweat.gif seriously? i thought for 50mm f1.8, we can always use f1.8? sweat.gif paiseh, not too sure on the "theory" yet... doh.gif
*
no need to paiseh le. everybody learns via trial and error

what goldfries meatn was, the subject you are taking will be clear but on a very small part only. For eg, when you take a face, your image might be clear on the nose but the remaining features (eyes, mouth, ears) won't be that clear smile.gif

With regards to the 50mm F1.8, anyone know the sweet spot for this lens ?

I've been trying it out and the lens seems to be the sharpest at F2:8 with a nice bokeh for portrait shots.
*
i guess it varies actually based on conditions and your composition.
