unless you're getting a 2nd hand camera, it isnt important to check the shutter count.

Okay guys, though its not something big, but here's a really good photography who's really good at taking panoramas using the 350D.

Have a look and be amazed, if im not wrong he only uses the kit lens. smile.gif
http://robertmekis.com/?kateg=photos&subkateg=landscape

Oh yea, he uses ND grads too. smile.gif

Hope that this will be a good inspiration for you all happy.gif

lol, high f number plus a little sharpening will do d. Usually around f11 is the sharpest for the kit lens. smile.gif But shud try f16, more depth. But since its a panorama i think f11 will do

i wish to shoot those scene but i dun hv transport to go out early , no tripod not filter lagi....swt~~~
*
I have the equipments but laziness took a big toll sweat.gif if u're staying in KL i know where to get those cokin grad filters and manfrotto tripods at a decent price.

QUOTE(cypher @ Jan 8 2008, 12:15 AM)
it looks like polarize filter is a must ...
*

IMO Its not a must, its something essential smile.gif

QUOTE(./Hack-Fusion @ Jan 8 2008, 12:19 AM)
polarize filter work it's own full strength when u are 90 degree to the sunlight(like shooting scene during noon time)

ND filter is different...it can block the sun light while u can capture to scene colour more rich (correct me if wrong)
*

true about the polarizer part smile.gif

ND filter just cut down the amount of light that goes through your lens. It wont produce more rich colors, in fact the polarizer does that while the ND dont. The thing with ND filter is it only extends your exposure time. With a good ND filter you can even do a 30 min exposure during broad day light.

ND Graduated filter is something different. It helps even out exposure for a scene, like for instance where u're having problem trying to get the right exposure:

exposed for sky: foreground too dark
exposed for ground: sky washed out.

A example if u put an ND grad for a somewhat tricky scene:

remember guys, he used filters, for example

Filters:
Cokin Graduated Gray (neutral) A120
Cokin Graduated Gray (neutral) A121

and i believe those shots have undergone PP.

since we're talking about landscape, here's one guy's shots that i like
http://www.pbase.com/trot/scenic

FYI he's on LYN forum. just inactive already by the looks of it.
*

ND grads rox biggrin.gif but he's using Grad Grays.. I do not know how they worked though, its just plain gray right?

The dude from pbase rox man o_O nice shots!

QUOTE(yikyeou @ Jan 8 2008, 12:28 AM)
yo guys.

i tried HDR this afternoon, but cannot work. how to do HDR image? I took few images of the same scene at diff exposure and merge all with photoshop.

er... for the 1st pic i believe u didnt went through the tone mapping process. Its a must if u wan to get stunning HDR pictures. Unless you want to leave it as natural as it seemed. U need a program called Photomatix if u wanna do tone mapping.

for the last pic, its because the lights from the sky and the street lights fooled your sensor into under exposing your scene. Sometimes its better to take a few shots with different exposures to get the desired results. An easy way to do it is to use the bracketing method provided by the rebel. 1 over, 1 under, 1 0. Most likely the under and over 1 will work fine, but it all depends on the scene.

for me the 2nd pic is the one that i'd go for if you ask me to chose between the two.

@R a D ! c 4 L~i am interested to know where to get cokin grad filters and manfrotto tripods at good price as well smile.gif
*
Go here, inside there's details about that place. smile.gif

I bought my Manfrotto 190 X-PRO-B + 804 RC2 Manfrotto tripod head for around RM580+ after a 20%(normal price around 700+) discount given by them.

For all cokin the will give u a 20% discount too. Im looking forward to get the Cokin z-pro series from them but currently they don have stock. So i only have the p-series now. You could give them a call just to find out, the people there are friendly, so no worries. smile.gif

so far i have no regrets using those filters and the tripod! best 1st tripod that i have happy.gif

looking at the picture...it seems the lake look so tenang..like mirror/crystal clear. so..i think he use CPL filter. how bout if he use ND filter??? izzit will produce the same result?
*

He used the CPL filter to deepen the blue skies, ND filter will only cut the light going through the lens. Though a CPL does cut down the light too, approx 2-stops.

I guess the lake is calm because there's no wind that time? he's just at the right moment at that time.

QUOTE(cjtune @ Jan 8 2008, 01:13 PM)
Maybe he used a graduated neutral-density filter?
Note that the scenery when reflected on water, is brighter than what is on ground level...
*
note that for every shot he posted some of the details about the shot he took. Like what filter did he used and stuffs like that.

check out this one
http://robertmekis.com/?kateg=photos&subka...bsah=photo155a1

here's the basic information for the shot:
Panorama: 7 vertical pieces
Camera:Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel, Digital Kiss)
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55 / F3.5-5.6 (SET)
Flash: --
Flash mode: --
Shutter speed: 1/50 sec.
Aperture: 11
ISO: 100
Focal length: 18 mm
35mm equivalent: 29 mm
Tripod: Manfrotto 055 PRO B
Head: Manfrotto 329 RC 4

Filters:
Cokin Circular Polarizer (Gray) A164
Cokin Graduated Gray (neutral) A120
Cokin Graduated Gray (neutral) A121

the info is just at the left side of the photo smile.gif

And obviously his shots had undergone post processing, but i dont think its HDR. Still those are pretty nice shots, let's not talk about pp and stuffs, aint those composition good?

btw, here's another photographter who uses the rebel for her works. Most of her works are high quality, mainly portraits too, she excels in taking self portrait and fashion portraits. Another good inspiration smile.gif
Her gears:

Currently I use a Canon 350D with the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, but I also use the Canon 60mm f/2.8 & 18-55mm lens. Lighting is usually natural but sometimes use my Interfit lighting kit.

Don have to get a hood la, lens + filter enough. The thing is during the buy make sure that you do a few test shots to check everything up, the autofocus also must be checked. And then set to MF, turn the focusing ring around to feel if there's any abnormalities on it. Check the front and back of the lens to see whether there's scratches on it too. Best if that there's still warranty left.

how to check properly the abnormalities,
the scratch front and back
give some tips laa  icon_question.gif

BTW thanks  biggrin.gif
*
easy, just see whether the glass elements at the front and the back of the lens got scratches or not lo. Don have to do anything special, just check only, like how you check your LCD got scratch or not laugh.gif

When i say turn the focusing, you check by turning the focusing ring out and back, and try to "feel" if there's anything inside the lens blocking the gears inside.

Oh yeah, 1 more thing to add, during the check, make sure there's no fungus or mold inside, you can do this by checking through the view finder, and point your camera towards a bright scene and see whether there's any black spots on the lens.
