Hey, I'm just wondering, is it possible to have a newbie to play a full song with piano? By ''newbie'' I mean a person who know nuts about piano, not even the E D C keys or those stuffs.

I wanna play a song or two with piano, but I know nothing about it. I got a piano a home, it's my sis's, but she went oversea, so no more teacher for me, and I don't want to join the ridiculous expensive piano lesson. So guys, playing a song by memorizing the position of the keys and start playing it over and over again? And of course, without anybody helps, possible?

put "C" "E" etc musical note stickers of the keys, sheet music also written with same and learn by heart, memorize! it helps if you have musical bones too or musical ear...rhythm.

But what if I just want to play a song, without going through all the beginner basics?

How about u explore the sounds itself.. just trial n error... listen to a song n slowly adapt to it..
try with simple song first then proceed with other songs that sounds interesting 2 u..
if u dont want 2 learn the basic ways.. ur ear must be very very good to make it possible. smile.gif

Well it depends on what song are you trying to play.

If you are talking about nursery tunes then it shouldn't be a problem...

But if you are talking about the other end like Piano Concertos by Rachmaninov, Fantasy Impromptu by Chopin and many many more...
You've got to be a prodigy (such as Marc Yu) to learn those stuff from scratch in a short period of time... laugh.gif

As long as you can read notes, you can learn simple songs by yourself. biggrin.gif

Try googling or searching Youtube for lessons, there's more than enough to get you started. smile.gif

There are no tricks to music. All tricks are based on music theory and basics. I think you'd be better off really learning the basic stuff like scales and what the names of the notes are. It will probably take alot less time that way than just trial and error without knowing what you are doing. But basics are really boring, I won't lie to you there tongue.gif

why dont you want to learn the basics first?

i think its possible lor...but it'll be very difficult coz you wont understand the stuff you're playing.

haha i can teach you tongue.gif

1. Know your notes. What is Middle C? LOL.
2. Stick to simpler Keys, e.g. C Major, G Major (F#), D Major (C#,F#), F Major (Bb),Bb major (Bb, Eb), A Minor etc
3. Choose songs with less Timing Trickiness e.g. Dotted Quavers etc. Stick to notes which are generally Crotchets, Quavers First. Then slowly venture into harder rhythms.
4. Patience (I never had this tongue.gif)

Frankly, having very basic-Basics of Music is essential, else score reading will be a chore. biggrin.gif

Good Luck!

it is possible to learn how to play a song without theories. although my situation is not really like yours, but i think it's similar.

to play a song without the knowledge of theories, the only way to do it is by memorizing. but i must tell you that without proper knowledge, to get there is fairly two to three times slower. but that's just the learning curve. once you've gotten through that learning curve, the rest is up to your determination.

i know nuts about theories, so i learned everything the hard way, trial & error. i don't know about others, but i just know that i'm pretty slow in catching up with the techniques, etc. i produce trance, and yes, i have my debut release 2 months back by a portugese label. it is possible my friend.

I was probably just like u not too long ago.. my piano still sux though.. but slowly slowly improve lo =)
now i've started to take lessons to improve bit more and also learn theory from someone firsthand.

I'm very slow at learning music theory actually, and I am quite tone deaf because of the lack of musical training when young. to me.. music is still a big mystery to my ears.. haha! =) I can only tell the difference by saying 'sounds nice' or 'sounds bad' >< I can only slowly find simple tunes on the piano, but if u ask me to find the chords or anything like that I'm totally hopeless.

anyways I'm no good at learning from youtube/online/books that kind of thing. I've tried but it just doesn't work for me.. =/ so in the end took up lessons tongue.gif good luck on learning! =)

I've seen a Japanese show where they got a man who knew nothing about piano play Fur Elise in one week. It helps him by sticking the notes on the piano keys, but to me, that doesn't really help much. After all, you can't bring sticky note labels all around with you.

Bro, i suggest you don't do anything without a single basic knowledge, it will ruin your finger once u adapted with the wrong technique..
Get friend or google the basic technique, it is very important and u need patient and patient, practice and practice for music, shortcut will only ruins stuff IMO

and of course, to play a song with one hand and both hand are different, sounds different, feels different
also depends on types of song you wanna play, pop and classical will be different

nobody plays full song at first attempt to play instrument. learn slowly la. what u need to know is which key responds to what note. then u also need to learn about tempo.

no need to rush unless you're trying to impress somebody.
