I have saved up all year long for my birthday present and I have amounted up to RM1000+(16 year old only mah) and I originally wanted to buy the 360 because my only gaming console is a PSP and I sold my old PS2 for the Xbox but when September comes, Apple released the iPod Touch which is the iPhone alternative. I'm a movie buff, I regularly watch movie once a week and having a wide touchscreen portable movie player with a powerful web browser and PDA features is like dream device but alas I can only have one of the two. Any advice on which to choose? I'm pulling my hair because of this.

+ Why Xbox 360 and not Wii or PS3? PS3 is out of the question, unless they can play backup games, I wouldn't dream of buying it. The Wii has graphics similiar to PS2 which doesn't thrill me and I once played Red Steel on it and it was hard to control the character and not very accurate.

Anyways TS, i suggest u consider again for ya option. Ask ya self, btween gaming and movie which one do u like most or u do often. If watch movie more then gaming then why done just go for iPod Touch? As for gaming, maybe pc can satisfy ur needs in term of gaming. As for my personal favor, i would go for iPod Touch since i got a pc to fullfill my gaming needs. Owning a PDA like device are far more better then own a gaming console. Well.. Thats my 2 cent. Dont flame and no hard feeling.

That's the problem I don't have a platform for gaming. My computer don't have the power to play next gen games so instead of upgrading my computer, I opt for a gaming console because 1. Game installation unnecessary 2. Cheaper hardware wise(try buying the same amount of hardware to play nexgen games compared to console) 3. More games

I have both iPod and Xbox 360, but my iPod is not ipod touch but only nano. My opinion is, if i only can choose either one, i will choose Xbox 360, because why, iPod is only for limited function (u can only play song and watch video clip), after a few months u will feel bored because of nothing much to do with it. But with Xbox 360 u can play and have fun for life, every month got new game to play with and make your life full of activity and cheerful. If u boring with existing game u can buy or download new game and the best part is u can play xbox live online with all over the world, got a alot of friends and having fun together without boundary and physical gathering somemore.

this is a no brainer.

if you posted this in XBOX's Thread of course they'll say go for the 360.

Anyway when u compare two completely irrelevant item (come to think of it, this is worse than a NextGenWar Discussion), the only think you should think of is the practicability of it. Whether you are always indoor or outdoor. If you are always indoor, isn't it rather silly to buy an ipod touch?

I actually have an iPod Nano but it only plays music. The Touch is different because it has widescreen video playing capabilities, Web browsing, and bunch of apps.


I think what you say is true. Apple has regularly updated the iPod's line every year but consoles will at least last seven years because of their pattern in next gen.

TS, i think you should read the forum on APPLE BYTE. I think i read something about touch screen issue on the Ipod Touch, you might need to be aware of that.

As for your question on picking xbox or ipod....geez, they are gears from 2 different dimensions man! Seems to me, now its more like MICROSOFT vs APPLE...

My pick would be the xbox. Ipod can watch widescreen but watching at such a small screen nice meh? Besides, xbox can play your dvds and upscale them upto 1080p using vga cable.

Also, choose xbox only if you play original games. Why? Because of 3ROD. There is no certain way to avoid so you don;t know when you get it and when you get it, what is the best way to fix it? Warranty.

If you mod your xbox, you can only find ppl to fix it for u and yes it works but no guarantee that it will not come back. At least you are protected for 3 years if you buy original. I'd rather sleep knowing my xbox is protected rather than having endless worries like when my xbox gonna get 3ROD. I know the game is expensive but 2nd hand game is quite affordable. Besides there are people like pmsoo who provides game renting. Besides support original ! Makes you appreciate the games more more more more.

Anyway, you are just 16 =.='' Prolly you should not step into next-gen first since the cash is quite hard for you to save up.

Whats the point of getting Ipod touch when you already have a PSP which can view better movie then the ipod. And the screen is even bigger.

PS3 is a better engine then Xbox 360. Put both into the HDMI mode and you will see the difference. The problem with PS3 is there is no good game only. Give it sometime. And you think Blu-ray player is that cheap? Try doing a survey and tell me which brand sell cheaper then PS3. And blu-ray is the next gen disc.

Xbox 360 a modded console? I bought my Xbox 360 for live only. You will miss all the fun action. You can go with modded and some games are good but how long will you enjoy it.

Get IPOD Touch , since after u get ur xbox360 u have to worry about 3ROD and u will need to spend more money on getting urself a better LCD monitor / TV , ipod touch is good enug for u...since u wont get addicted in gaming till affected your SPM exam

Well, if it is an LCD monitor, then you are set for HD anyway. So you don't need HDTV to enjoy HD. A monitor works just as well, albeit smaller.

X-Clamp is not a permanent solution. There are cases when X-Clamp consoles have 3RODed again. It is not a peachy situation as you envision it to be, where you X-Clamp it and everything will be fine and dandy. If it does solve the problem once and for all, I would have gladly voided my warranty and clamped it.

He won't buy from Gamers Hideout because he does intend to mod the console, so warranty is the least of his considerations. I do have one question though, isn't the PSP sufficient for your portable video needs?

why u want to watch video on small screen ipod touch? Even watching movie using PSP is not really fun. I let my son watch his fav cartoon on PSP while having dinner so that I can enjoy my food. That's the only benefit I can think off watching on small screen. For all my movie, I prefer my proper home projector and 5.1 surround sound system.

Reasons:

1) Ipod touch kinda over price only for fancy shit.. RM 17xx ( prefer Ipod nano or classic Ipod with 30GB which I owe a nano) especially for music
2) I agree with pierreye you can watch movie on TV? how often u gonna watch it on ipod? (even i got my psp didn't watch much.. too small)
3) seriously if u can afford to get ori game... man live damn fun.... ( anyone wanna halo 3 tonite?)

anywayz, wanted to point one...some posts back, someone mentioned you need Gold membership to use XBox Live Marketplace. not true.

Gold membership is pretty much only for online multiplayer gaming. sometimes you can get free DLCs for Gold members only (like the Genki Rockets 'Heavenly Star' & 'Breeze' skins for Lumines Live). but generally you can use XBLM even on Silver membership. you just need to load up on MS Points. even for chatting via MSN also you can do it direct from the XBox360 while in-game on Silver membership.

as for the TS' query, XBox360's strength (other than it's more extensive game library) is its online community. since you wanna play backups, you're locking yourself out from the main selling point of an XBox360. might as well get the iPod touch then lor...

but then, in S'pore, now can get free iPod touch on SingNet Broadband plan...save my money. haha

to play multiplayer games = need Gold membership

to buy/download games on XBox Live Marketplace = any membership Gold/Silver can

e.g. you wanna download Bomberman Live from XBox Live Marketplace, but you only have a Silver membership.

1) download the Demo version of the game from XBox Live Marketplace
2) play until syiok already, but Demo mah...so some levels locked
2) buy MS Points either online or from a game shop (in pre paid card form)
3) download the Full version of the game
