RM1000+ for a gadget is just too much, in singapore work for one month can get so many gadgets it is even enough for an xbox 360 and an mp4.
There are other things to consider. Singapore's house is expensive. Singapore's car is cheap but the road tax is expensive(about 5-6x more without converting based on a 1.5L car). You have to pay 20% CPF while EPF only pay anywhere between 9-11%. You are forced to save more there. You may get xbox cheap with respect to a singapore salary but that is assuming he does not own a car, a house and probaly eat bread all time (Hah! Roti Canai/Prata is S$0.80 then
).Singapore is not heaven for every tom d*** and harry to work. Those who have high academic qualification or with specific specialties will benefit.
