Hi, recently I heard about one kind of internet service can make use of the hp act as a modem, so that you connect to internet through the phone, anyone heard about it before? Can iPhone use as modem too?

Yes you can. To summarise:
PC --> WiFi--> iPhone running as a router --> GPRS/EDGE network --> Internet I use this before in a hotel room with no Internet access using my iBook G4, a Linksys WRT54GC & my iPhone connected to DiGi EDGE network. |
