you want modern or vintage?

makes alot of diff to the sound. . .

if modern try the DiMarzio rail pups( cruiser etc)

classic go for the area. . .

SD also has a few decent ones. . .

but DiMarzio ftw! xD

The only difference between those two are the spacing between the pole pieces. For Gibson style guitars, the string spacings are narrower hence the pickup is 'shorter', whereby for guitars with trem systems, the string spacings are slightly wider, hence the pickup is 'longer'.

TB - Trembucker

Dimarzio calls it F-spaced.

However, this only needs to be applied to bridge pickups. Apparently string spacing at the neck pickup is the same between Trem and Non Trem guitars. Wouldst the LYN veterans/pros mind to clarify on this? I'm only 50% sure on this fact.

You can wire the EMGs to any combination actually. Instead of the Actives, why not the passive HZ varients?

Dimarzio's PAF Pro are very versatile pickups in the bridge. You can try that out.

You can always wire it as 2 volumes, i.e. one for neck and one for bridge. C'mon, if you go for active EMGs, I don't think you're looking for that "rolled-off tone knob" sound anyway!

But seriously, EMG81 wouldn't be very versatile. It's good for metal, but not much else. You can try using EMG85s all the way though, that'd probably give you more range...

Actually, you'll be surprised.
It has a nice warm, fat tone if played clean. I know. I use it all the time tongue.gif

Yeah the tex specials are pretty sweet sounding, great for blues and country style play IMO.

I prefer the EMG85 in the bridge, the 81 sounds kinda harsh sometimes...
EMG doesn't necessarily means metal...

That being said, I would go for the EMG SL set...
Played them a few times, they sound really good...

from my personal hearing (maybe not so accurate la, but my opinion), the bridge needs more depth in it. and the neck single coil sounds too airy and doesn't have the fat tone.
i never really tried the mid much..nor do i really use it either.
i have a lynch screamin demon at the bridge but i think that pickup is not very a high output one..so if ur into metal i suggest higher output pickups like active pickups...

If you don't want the hassle of active EMGs, go for DiMarzio X2N. The output is gila babi high enough for metal, and it's passive.

Like EQ said, DiMarzio FTW!
