Well, my friend works with an MNC, oil & gas..he's fresh grad, with no working experience and he just recently joined as an engineer. His pay is RM3k with no allowances (except claims la)..I do feel he's kinda underpaid for MNC oil&gas company, but as 'Selrahc' said its normal nowadays. IMO, as long as u can cope with your expenses and hv fun with ur work..just hang in there until better days.  thumbup.gif

yaya, that's what i think too smile.gif

debbieyss!!

First, i dont see you are underpaid base on your working experience. A work that you stay less than a years employer would not consider as your career profile mostly. So in future at least stay your job for at least 2 years. You can claim any facts that you learned, but that is the GAME out career world.

surveyor!!
Also i don't feel your friend is underpaid also. WIth a fresh grad pay of Rm3k that is simply owesome. Does it because is O&G it has to be higher or it suppose to measure in term of individual competent & experience? Let me ask, what your friend will able to contribute to the organisation or the team with its minimal experience as a gresh grad? DO you aspect a RM5k for a fresh grad is consider reasonable?

In short, everything is back to basic. Academic & experience has to combine as integration to maximise your career value & prospect. Be well grounded before you demand. Everyone wants to climb up the corporate or suceess in earning more, and times will bring you there once you are well grounded which the experience here that i mentioned. From the 1-5 year, is your learning path which is not your demand power, as here its depend how initiative and eager of you to success in your career.
*
before i joined this MNC, my experience is around 2 years already

what so suprise ?

holding master doesn't mean they able to work 24 hours nor bring millions of profit to a company ... it just a paper ...

somemore now economy poor, who dare use high salary to hire those master people ?
*
ya i think you're right.

In fact a master degree will stand worthwhile only when the holder has working experience.

I agree too, having a Master Degree doesnt mean that you will have a good kick start, some might even just ended up the same salary as those 2-3 yr experience Degree Grad. But when come to real working life, people will see your experience more than your paper, that's the reality of life.

Off topic: If I could get a Master, I would aim for MBA instead of post grad on my current field. The stepping stone is totally different, brighter and wider. Suitable for those who has the vision to go for top management, leading organization and earning big bucks. Its gona be a long term investment though.
*
but MBA is very common, it's anywhere everywhere.

On the contrary if you choose other post grad programs it's rather less competitive.

Like I said, MBA is on a different stepping stone, its a long term investment. If you utilize it,  If you choose a specific post grad program, you are only tied to your own field, super expert in that field only. For me I prefer overseeing entire organization, contributing through others, making big bucks and having strong business chain with outside world. Well, its up to our own vision, you can choose to be expert in your field, or otherwise. Every field also competitive, its just the matter of time, we need to work smart and get challenged to be the best.
*
some people say focus in the field which you proficient the most or you interested the most, from there build a carrer of yourself; some poeple view as you.

I have no comment, cos currently i'm not sure which career i truly mean to aim for.

Compared to other industries, IT is defintely grossly underpaid sector as can be seen in this thread.

I think it's due to competitions of 'cheap labour' from China and India as well as the Phillippines.
*
I don't think so. I have plenty of friends who work in IT industry and they get good pay.
