Hi there,

Lucky to have this forum, wanted to share this with you guys. Please comment on my current job.

Job Title : Senior Engineer (Marketing Dept)
Job Desciption : 1 Leg Kick (even on non job related tasks eg: IT, HR etc)
Years spent in company : 5 yrs and 8 months
Company : Electrical & Automation
Industry : Electrical & Automation
Tenure : Permanent
Employment Level : Senior
Salary : RM 3k + RM850 on car maintenance, toll, parking AND petrol allowance + RM150 hp allowance
Working hrs: 8.30 am - 5.30pm, alternate Saturday-off (just started this year, b4 this working on every Saturday).

This is my first job after graduated, and went into this company as a salesperson (basic + allowance = RM1300, can you believe it!!??). First 2 years was tough, but after i found a couple of big customers, life was good, manage to earn around 6k a month.

Then came to forth year, lost interest in sales, backside itchy approach my boss and got transferred to a newly developed marketing dept. Got stuck with my current salary.

There are more stories to tell, maybe i would continue later.

Btw, am i really underpaid? my boss is a nice guy, but loyalty can't feed me and my loans. Should i go? I got a degree in E&E and finishing my MBA soon. Sighh.....

i think u finish ur MBA can jump d ......

Hmm... to my surprise, based on my own research, there are tons of MBA in the market right now, and MBA cant guarantee a good pay. What's important is not the skill or qualification, it's the previous company that you worked before. I see big MNC comp wont take ppl from small potatoes company like me... Sigghh....

i still don't think many msians have MBA ... so if comparison with MNC they still take in Masters and MBAs ..... even if u see the current advert on newspapers they are looking for MBA for BAT .....
*
Yeah.. I applied for a position in BAT too... the problem is, there are are 287 applicants (thru jobstreet alone), 198 of them have MBA, and 4 of them PhD.. fighting for 1 position...

actually i can do as im currently based outside malaysia, but will you do it? I currently practise an expenditure of 30% and savings of 70% . You should do that, but then again, its very nice to spend money.

RM 1k for RM 380k house? i dun think so, unless u put deposit 200k for the house...

can explain more on your salary break down ?

unless you got a big family to take care, or you have few cars and houses ...

else i can't see earn 5-6k is hard to survive ... the key word here is 'hard'

if really this case, those below 5k already die ...
*
Oh... allow me to answer this. You dun need a big family to 'hardly' survive with 5~6k.

i am not married but my expenses:

housing loan = 1400
car loan = 1000
parents = 500
insurance = 300
petrol = 400
utilities (+ astro + internet)= 400
handphone = 100

total = 4100

not to mention unforeseen expenses eg. toiletries, entertainment, friend's wedding ang pow money, etc etc

if you are earning rm5000, after epf deduction etc balance 4450.00

4450 - 4100 = 350 divided by 30 days = RM 11.60 per day for your meal.... heheh

ohh... i din mention about savings, did i?

try to cut those unnecessary items like insurance, entertainment, utilities ect ... you wont die without those ... if you insist to spend on those, then don't complain money not enough ...

as said by giasens, dun buy if you not afford ... example before you spend rm1k for the car, you should count yourself first how much balance left after pay the rm1k ... not yelling around after you buy it ... this is call poor financial management ...
*
unnecessary items? insurance? later i masuk hospital who want to bear the cost? utilities? takkan cannot use electricity and water kot? rm1k per month for a 70k car, not too much ler.. house? it can be a form of investment, better than renting (or in other words paying other ppl's house... if can afford lar..) other expenses like petrol, handphone, parents... can i not pay it?

however, i strongly believes that i am caught in the rat race... but how much do we need to earn to live a quality life?? What i possessed now is not luxurious..

I know, i know... i can still drive Kancil (no offence to Kancil driver!!), rent a room, eat economic rice everyday (even that is not cheap)... i can still prove that with 5k salary, by living in that life will not lead you to anywhere...

well, i m juz trying to support the statement that 5k salary is 'kinda hard' to survive.. especially those not staying with parents and did not take subsidies from MBF (mama bapa bank)...

oppss.. off topic... sorry!

from ur salary and expenses breakdown, seems like when you earn RM 5k, u will wan to have RM 5k life, when you earn RM 7k, you wan to have RM 7k life style, i believe there will be not enuf for you even when you earn RM 8k per month correct ?

with earning RM 5k, u driving a RM 70k car i believe should be vios or city.
by the time u earning RM 8k permonth, u aiming for  RM 160k car (camry or accord or madza) then ur expenses will be increasing already...haha

sorry, really no offenses, but that's will be good is you have have more saving rather when young even though u can earn RM 5K or above to protect your future life and living cost rather than having a better life in your young and suffer more when you get age..

really no offense to you, but some advices smile.gif
*
what i wrote was juz an example.. the expenses breakdown is real but of cuz my salary is not rm5k... anyway nice guessing.. i m driving a vios.. smile.gif

wat u say is very correct.. dat's why i am alwiz short of money.. tongue.gif

anyway, i still would like to make a statement that, 5k salary is still 'kinda hard' to survive in M'sia... sad.gif
