hi everyone, i've read everything to page51. noticed that most of forumers here are from IT background. But i wish i could get some info regarding future prospect of accounting grads working under SAP FICO. Is the pay as good as those who from IT background? ERP sounds like an interesting option to me comparing to other paths like auditing and ordinary accounting,But i definitely dont want wasting my time if the pay is not as good. Hope to get some insights from you all. thx

I understand that consulting firm like accenture hires accounting grads, just not sure what is the job scope or would them provide FICO training. Any recommendation for firms providing FICO training? So if i m so lucky enough to enter the field. Would i be treated alike IT grads who do sap modules like hr, crm, etc (from the aspect of career advancement opportunities and pay jump etc). FICO seems not so demanded as those modules.

Yes - support role, BASF do provide training on-job and i think there is those training they will send the staff too if there is a need for new modules. But if I'm not mistaken, BASF tend to hire ppl with at least 1 yr support / implementation exp in SAP.

I did read the whole 51pages including page1 because it's so informative.just that i m worried that these whole things are just for it grads as i thought for accounting grads it maybe a different situation (cos i think it people and accounting people will do different things even in the same sap fico for example, consulting firm deploy it people to customers site to do it things like sap support and others, but for accounting people in consulting firm maybe a different story)
anyway, thanks a lot for your replies. now that i gained more knowledge regarding the field thumbup.gif

hi again, i surfed a lot n found that experienced people normally encourage accounting graduates to have 4-5 years of accounting experience before going into sap, by encourage what i really meant is they say it like the only right way to enter the field. i understand the rationale behind this: understanding of accounting transaction treatment, flow, business processes something like tat etc, so that you can add value to customers when entering sap consulting. But the huge paycut and years lost that could have been the real implementation experience in SAP are really pain in the ass. What i want to ask is, like IT grads that can go straight into technical like ABAP n BASIS, as an accounting grads, can i go straight into functional SAP like fico after graduated without accounting experience(from the aspect of would firm hires fresh accounting grads to do this, and can you go far without the outside accounting experence)? thx thumbup.gif

HELP !!!

I am a fresh grad, applied for an IT job few days ago in a medical MNC.

Today, I went for the interview. Instead they offered to send me (which I assume is sponsor) to take a SAP course - training 5weeks in KL (ABAP) and I am required to pass the exam.
The thing is, passing the exam would not guarantee a job in there. He stated that they will call when they need me... shocking.gif

Some questions here.. I know that SAP field has a very high entry barrier. A certificate passing the course gives nothing but a slight advantage over fresh grads. What I want to make clear is that :

1. Is the 5week training course actually the ABAP bootcamp thing posted in here earlier? If so, given the bright prospect of this field, I assume there would be tough competition in getting a place in the program sponsored. Why is the company actually offered me SAP when I applied for the other job? It doesnt make sense...Am I lucky enough or something is wrong?

*They told me they are actually planning to send quite a few fresh grads to take the course. I just wonder would a company spend nearly 100k just like this, and not even planning to hire all of them after finishing it??

In fact, I have other job offer which is quite satisfactory. However, this program really gives me a better chance to enter this lucrative field. I think this is a very rare opportunity. 5week is not long. The problem is the other job offer is actually the only job that allows me to work in my hometown ( small state, only that company can provide me the job, even the salary is low). Rejecting the offer means I have to work outside in case I passed the exam and not getting hired to do SAP. Dilemma ar....

SAP seniors, please do help me... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

If I'm not mistaken, if the company is an MSC status(and some other bla bla(as long as they HIT the MDeC target), they are able to get free sponsorship on training and etc(expat intake permit perks, etc).

Hence, theoretically speaking MDeC(The government, your tax money) is sponsoring you for the exam and not the Company at all.
Whether it's worth taking or not, you have to ask yourself..Is this a risk worth taking... No one other than yourself, should be walking that door/cliff/window.

Actually, the choice is easy. I just have to make clear of something 1st. I know that it's definitely very hard to enter SAP consulting company without experience. But is it easy to enter a SAP end user company?? I've noticed quite a number of ppl taking the course costing rm10k+ end up jobless. I don't want to take the course and go into a SAP unrelated field later because fail to get a SAP job...

My experience as non-experienced, jobless last time

1) Took SAP academy, paid around RM20K+. Pass exam.

2) Start blasting resumes all over the consulting and end user firms doing SAP. Make all the phone calls, use all your networking friends to ask or send resume direct to the manager in charge. Easier if you have friends who have political clout in the firm which I don't have at all. (e.g. My first job - almost all fresh graduates who comes in to do SAP, knows or related to one of the bosses in the firm).

3) Pray.
Whether it is end user or consulting firm, it is all depends to either your luck (10% of the time) or your political clout (90% of the time ppl get into SAP line this way).

So u got how many interviews after blasting your cv? i have 0 political clout... tongue.gif

I think it's the knowledge-comm thingy.. they got mdec sponsorship also. the course is quite cheap (compared to Axon Academy rm30k)

They are calling me to attend a test. Hmm.. wonder what would the test like?

Btw, the transportation, accommodation and food are all taken care of the co. , but i have to make sure whether it is knowledgecom or axonacedemy thing later hmm.gif

I was taking the SAP course from knowledgecom
From my experienced with them, i just can say they are irresponsible.
they give u lots of empty promises before u make the payment.
Once u paid, they will not entertain u, especially the key person who in charge of SAP Mr Ruban
Few of my frens and me who taking the course at them feel the same thing
*
Did You and your friends manage to get a SAP job after taking the course?

Okie, thank you guys.

I've done the AXON test. The result will be passed to MDEC to see whether I pass or not. But I am quite optimistic... thumbup.gif

Btw, that MNC has requested me to do a medical checkup ( I think this is a ordinary hiring process). So, I guess I stand a good chance to enter this end- user firm if I passed the course well.

Wish me luck ~~ biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
