QUOTE(nabelon @ Jul 10 2008, 12:53 AM)
Can someone like me who has an education background in finance get involved in SAP line ?
*
hell yeah, FICO (Finance and Controlling) are short on people OR there are not enough of them to work in Malaysia.
You will see alot FICO vacancies on jobstreet smile.gif

QUOTE(RiskTaker @ Jul 10 2008, 11:32 PM)
So ppl who's not from programming background will be able to try SAP functional, what does a SAP functional really do?since i heard ppl from Accounting, Finance can also do SAP funtional...
*
like the above comment

QUOTE(RiskTaker @ Jul 10 2008, 08:07 PM)
So basically, ppl with good programming skills like ABAP will definately belongs to the TEchnical part,

So, for Functional :- SAP MM,SD,FI,CO,WM,PP,PLM,SCM; no programming is needed rite, then, what does ppl from Functional do???
*
actually nowadays, a good consultant should have both ABAP and functional skills so being specialized is not as rewarding anymore
functional people would benefit from knowledge of programming so what you really need is more of logic flow (programming in a sense but you do not need to understand the details of how its done ie ABAP per say)

I was doing IT support for 2 years.

Installing, patching and maintaining SAP R/3 system for a non-IT company from time to time.

But only surface work, management wont even let me touch the programming and implementation part.

Basically I'm a beginner. Like EXTREME beginner of SAP.

hahahahah.

But I have a bachelor degree in computer science (majoring in software engineering) and JAVA SL-275 certification. Although very rusty now due to the lack of programming task available for me to do.

I'm more technical and end user support than software engineering. sad.gif

So what can I do if I want to get into SAP? Become ABAPER?

What is an ABAPER's salary range? Good?
*
since you say you are more of installing, patching and maintaining SAP systems then BASIS seems more suitable for you
FYI, there is a lack of manpower in this field now smile.gif

ABAPer is a programmer. Salary range depends on number of implementations OR years of experience. If coupled together with good functional knowledge, 5 figures by big end user companies are a norm. Contract staff usually get 5 figures as well

Hi, i got offer from the Obtech Global for the SAP Help Desk position should i take it .....they told me tht training will be given on the SAP is there any chances
if i work in the help desk later can switch to SAP Basic or ABAP?
*
helpdesk usually don't go down into programming, they are just to take down the problem and refer to the FAQ given to answer questions by users. if cannot be solved then will be given to the L2 programmers.
Obtech do hire beginners, perhaps you should search more

anyone dealt with the company WeBecome before?
any info/comments are appreciated notworthy.gif

er currently waiting for spm result out...so chezzball....i heard SAP got 3 frield....one is functional , programing(abap) n the other one i forgot...is it logistic?
can show me the path to go to programming or functional after i get my result?...i means is it software enginer suitable to be at sap field?
*
the last one is called basis
it would be best to have some other language as basic before you pick up ABAP.
what you really need to have is how logic works in programming

QUOTE(Sphenix @ Feb 17 2009, 09:36 AM)

Does BO involve ABAP? cos I wonder by doing BO will learn ABAP or not.... :hrmm:
*
BO's sources come from various types of database, IF your customer's source involves SAP then you may have to learn ABAP.

something wrong with this promotion by SAP....

I paid RM25k for my SAP certification in 2006...KNN!  cry.gif
*
this is NOT SAP course, its certification course to certify that you have the capability of associate, professional or master level based on the number of years of experience
with the cert, supposedly you are recognized as a true SAP experienced worker smile.gif hence justifying your request to be highly paid

Tough luck if you believe on that wink.gif GUIXT is just a scripting language which allows you to customise screens based on user requirement but nothing more than that. I rarely see implementation which requires the use of guixt. ABAP is more than that .. it is the language used by SAP to run the core of the system, without ABAP, the system will be crippled. So, as long as SAP is still in use by businesses, I will say that the ABAPers will still be required. However, the emerging technologies brought by SAP might require you to be proficient in OO and as Java as well. For most of us who just know ABAP .. the future will still be there .. don't worry! smile.gif

Waa.. love the job .. did a performance tuning stint before .. and it was great when your customers come back and say .. "good job mate .. you've really improve the system a lot .. " .. hee..hee.. believe it or not, changing the way you extract data will actually bring down the runtime from hours to minutes.

Added on April 17, 2009, 7:59 am

I was in one of the project run by SAP in UK for IS-Insurance. But ... heck, the way SAP did the implementation wasn't far different from the way the consulting companies do theirs. The only advantage is, SAP has pool of 'experts' which can be called anytime but they do cost a lot of money too to bring these 'experts' in.
*
sometimes re-org also can bring down runtime biggrin.gif

that is why SAP Consulting quite lansi lor
even for big customers also they are quite action mad.gif
