For those who been sending me private message for ways to enter SAP industry, please check the beginning of the thread and read it thru.

SAP industry there is basically 2 ways of entering. No other way unless you are top students (1% in your university). 

1. Take SAP Academic Certification (about RM 30,000.00) and a lot of luck.

2. Look for MNC using SAP. Apply and work there for few years in SAP Support or in-house SAP development.
For those who is lucky to get into consulting firm, that is different story (this is the 1% in the industry as most got into from the 2 ways above).

SAP system is just ordinary SYSTEM... there are many types of SAP SYSTEM (or some call it Solution/Package) but generally we call it R/3 (from those days till now although the proper name now is NetWeaver) for the SYSTEM foundation.

So as per any SYSTEM, SAP System Administrators are just like any other Administrators... for an example, Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator. Administrators normally do those routine jobs like maintenance, backup, upgrade, patching, and once in awhile, involve in implementation.

I think there are 2 types of mentality around people working in SAP. One is doing SAP for the money while the other is doing SAP for the sake of technology/interest of it. I see alot of LYN member wanted to venture in SAP because of the high pay. Bear in mind that in SAP there will be alot of challenge in the coming years. The existing SAP Netweaver technology poses a new challenge even for a seasoned SAPer since new internet technologies been added i.e. XML, SOAP etc

The way forward is to embrace the new technology if you're interested to move with SAP. If not, why not consider to do the things you love to do ? When that is so, money will comes to you naturally with your expertise and passion that you've put into it. Besides, learning things you like is much better than learning for the sake of money.

Currently I'm interested in switching my job to SAP ABAP with .NET background.

.Net background - you on the losing side when it comes to SAP You need to re-learn your C or C++ or C#  or even JAVA language. It is easier with those language then going with .Net language if you intend to do SAP ABAP.

As for the SAP Consulting Company, I generally doubt they are hiring to non-experienced ABAP consultant with no knowledge.

You only got few options in hand:

1. If you really want to learn SAP ABAP, apply to the following companies

a. FORMIS-ISS (comes with 1 or 2 years bond) - They are restructuring and re-hiring a lot of people especially fresh graduate.

b. FELDA Pro-data (comes with 2 years bond and possibly you need to be a Malay to get in)

c. SIME DARBY GSC  (comes with 1 or 2 years bond) - You need to check them out..

d. BAT (bond - unsure how long) - You need to check them out..

e. Exxon-Mobil (bond term is around 3 years) - among the only oil and gas firms still running SAP R3 4.6C. You need to check them out.

Forget about joining SAP Consulting firms without experience UNLESS the following:

1. IF your uni results extremely good and you show experiences in programming language like C, C++, C# or Java and the particular company is willing to hire.

UNLESS YOU ARE EXTREMELY DESPERATE:

1. Apply HCL-Axon (work in India office). They hire and train a lot of ABAPers there. You get paid in Indian rupee and you are not consider as an expat there.
