Hmm.. anyone know how's the outlook of Business Warehouse (BW) career nowadays? Is there strong/moderate demand? Is the pay at par with ABAPers/Functional Module Specialist?

QUOTE(Aggroboy @ May 3 2010, 09:13 AM) BW is good career, it is more niche with better barrier to entry. The salary offers for experienced BW consultants are very impressive, easily more than programmers and comparable with specialist functionals. Sounds great to me If you have the chance to get this role, I humbly suggest to take it. |

QUOTE(achangle @ Jun 11 2010, 03:58 PM) yea... i doubt that in a 10-day course you learn every single detail of SAP in those modules...say jr consultant, i guess it's first level support job that u can aim for.. e.g. change layout, simple config etc.. i doubt they'll teach you how to config account determination, config a movement type, config credit management, LSMW etc... those complex & difficult ones will be left out u've to have working experience to understand those and know how to do it in real world situation.. |

I've seen some SAP functional/technical specialist who has stayed at that role for a long time while some others got promoted to become a SAP manager / senior managers / project managers.
What skills is needed to be a SAP manager; people skills, organization skills, management... Would companies promote ppl internally or head hunt externally for such position? How does one get in contact with a head hunter to look for jobs? |

Just wanna ask you guys, which SAP site/forum do you guys visit the most for work issue/advice?
What I encounter is that when someone post a configuration issue on the board, many people replied and I found some of the replies to be not true/misleading. A few replies are true & the correct way to solve the issue, but it takes experience and good judgement to know which is non-sense and which is useful. I once asked a SAP consultant how did she learn up to solve configuration issue, and she told me she visited SAP boards and searched for someone who encountered a similiar issue to hers. Or she would post her issue and hope for someone who could help her. She says she asked colleagues for help but they were not willing to help her.. I think that probably ppl do not want to share their SAP knowledge & experience openly, because this might indirectly "decreases" their value in the market (as the knowledge & experience is not scarce that much anymore - hence more ppl know how to solve it). Do you guys approach SAP sites/forums to look for advice for work issue? |

QUOTE(wiraone @ Jun 18 2010, 09:52 AM) @antaeusguy, Thanks wiraone for the advice I was a fan of sapfans.com until when there were some irresponsible posters who posted their specs. and asking for people to help them. I stopped frequenting the site eventhough, I do from time to time, participate in the discussion. I hardly go to sap's sdn .. too many junks, cut & paste suggestions in there. What they're interested is to get as many points as they can w/o really reading the problem and giving the probable solution to the original problem. The best is still Uncle Google .. I could search and most of the time, it went to either sapfans or sdn anyway So what do I suggest? Register to both, sdn and sapfans .. and don't expect to be spoon-fed I find that forum is a great way to learn SAP esp. when I encounter an issue, I googled it and lead to the SAP forums. I did learned something out of the forums, although it's not 100% perfect answers and need to skim through the threads. |

sorry guys this is off topic.. but an interesting note
SAP was initially developed by ex-IBM staffs who are Germans Today I was browing a coke collector's website who is a German as well http://www.cokebottles.de/ I was looking through his Coca-cola collections and am very impressed with the way he presented his collections in a very structured & detailed format, with many dependencies. Other coke collector's sites from other countries are never as structured & detailed as his. It just reminds me of SAP Library: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46b/helpdata/r...76/frameset.htm SAP system itself is also very structured & detailed as well... I wonder if this is the way Germans work.. that's why SAP is a German-made product |
