It's like your normal IT admin, but for SAP.

You perform tasks like installing updates (LCPs), monitor database, manage user authorization/access, maintain the SAP portal, manage server hardware sometimes, transport management between systems (dev, qa, production, etc).

Hi

I am really sad when I hear comments like this.  shakehead.gif  Not sure where you get the facts from. As I mentioned in my previous posting, it is not in the SAP field in Malaysia. Where can you get foreign SAP professional cheaper than Malaysians ? If you can, let me know as I would like to inform my friend who maybe interested. They get the same pay as local if not more. No one will want to leave their country if the pay is lower than their own country. It's not like maids, petrol station attendant, waiter @ coffee shop...etc that you see everday. On top of that, companies have to pay flights yearly, work permit fee & the hassle of applying/renewing work permits. So, please ....please don't have this misconception in the local SAP industry.

The real problem is mentioned in my previous post. Malaysia is very short of SAP professionals, especially those who wants to get involved in the technical area. As most companies here are operating in offshore environment, some flexiblity in working hours is required. Again, locals will shy away from this. So, what choice do companies have when they have a business to run ?

Wake up please ! This is where you need to show Malaysia Boleh rather than run away.  thumbup.gif

Sounds like a motivational speech laugh.gif

For SAP implementation functional activities that require face time, such as functional (mm, sd, fico, hr, etc), the consultants are safe like you said, since it is not cost effective to fly in foreign functionals. However for technical roles such as portal, basis, workflow, abap, conversion which do not require client facing the jobs can be outsourced and are happening even now. There were many project bids being sold to clients at low cost which is possible using hubs in India.

Just because your friend has trouble finding cheap SAP foreign professionals does not mean it reflects the market.

Really sad perspective looking at things. There is always demand for Malaysian consultants as not all customers are cheap. The issue here is not enough willing Malaysians to fill the roles. Stop moaning !!

Fill what roles, tell me. I'm interested to know hmm.gif

Well duh everybody looks at jobstreet, but as usual a lot of the postings are made by the same companies/agencies laugh.gif Filter by module and experience level then it's just that many.

As far as I know, the only component that has been hot since years ago is BW, hence the utter smugness from my friends who are in that field. Can't blame them lol.

Hi, your statement below :
============
UNLESS YOU ARE EXTREMELY DESPERATE:

1. Apply HCL-Axon (work in India office). They hire and train a lot of ABAPers there. You get paid in Indian rupee and you are not consider as an expat there.
============

Have you validated the info ?
As far as I know, they are not paid in Rupees but Ringgit. The pay is very competitive in Malaysian market. There are no other companies in MY  that can provide wide range of SAP exposure. So, if they train Malaysians & giving people chance to goto into SAP, why are you complaining ? Get the facts right. I am not working for Axon but I have friends there.

If you were given the option to join a small consulting firm in SAP BI versus Accenture Consulting, which one will you choose and why?
*
Join the small consulting firm if you want to be completely focused on mastering BI. Accenture is a good firm for learning, but it does have a habit of assigning you to projects that don't add to your skillset (SAP consultants can get randomly assigned to non-SAP projects).

Try to follow Chezzball punya example. Take ABAP as a 1-2yr stepping stone, then move up to lucrative modules like functional MM/HR/SD/FI, PI or BW.

Yet ABAPers are dying/begging to join the functional.

Grass greener on the other side? hmm.gif

ABAP is easy to use, that's why doh.gif

Over the years at this field, the countless fresh grads that I met became very good ABAPers in 2-3 months tops.

BW is good career, it is more niche with better barrier to entry. The salary offers for experienced BW consultants are very impressive, easily more than programmers and comparable with specialist functionals.

If you have the chance to get this role, I humbly suggest to take it.
