I was doing IT support for 2 years.

Installing, patching and maintaining SAP R/3 system for a non-IT company from time to time.

But only surface work, management wont even let me touch the programming and implementation part.

Basically I'm a beginner. Like EXTREME beginner of SAP.

hahahahah.

But I have a bachelor degree in computer science (majoring in software engineering) and JAVA SL-275 certification. Although very rusty now due to the lack of programming task available for me to do.

I'm more technical and end user support than software engineering. sad.gif

So what can I do if I want to get into SAP? Become ABAPER?

What is an ABAPER's salary range? Good?

since you say you are more of installing, patching and maintaining SAP systems then BASIS seems more suitable for you
FYI, there is a lack of manpower in this field now smile.gif

ABAPer is a programmer. Salary range depends on number of implementations OR years of experience. If coupled together with good functional knowledge, 5 figures by big end user companies are a norm. Contract staff usually get 5 figures as well

Hi there,

Thank GOD there is forum like this where we can share info abt sap...i need advise guys..

I am a new comer in sap and still green in this field...currently doing master data for 1+++ year...i am very keen to learn more abt SAP and dont wanna stay doing master data for the whole of my life...
my question is if i make the right decision choosing master data as a start to jump into sap?how far can i go some more doing master data is just like work as data entry...FYI,the master data which I do most is MM (BOM, Master Recipe,Prod Version etc), little part in SD (pricing) & FICO (GL). ..my target for some years ahead is to become a business process consultant (of kos)..ppl said i need to involve in project+learn hw to confiq etc before i cn get the 'consultant' title..pls pls help to answer my doubt..i cant sleep meh..

Main question:
1. Master data as a stepping stone to SAP, am I choose the right thing?
2. What is the career path leading if I do master data?Where to go then?
3. Any place can offer me to involve in project (mini project pun boleh la) with my 'ciput' experience?

pls advise.
Thx! yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif yawn.gif

Greetings to all Sifu's!

1) I'm a newbie here, and in need of advice. Should I pursue a career in ABAP or Basis? I know that ABAP is the programming side, while Basis is the administration side. But what are the pros and cons of each? which one has a higher salary range? more in demand? brighter future?

2) Say that in the future I would like to venture into Functional; would it be possible if I do Basis?

Thanks in advance! =)

just like to point out...not out of debate or some world SAP statistics that I have...but, SAP HR modules are NOT as easy as you would put it.

On a piece of paper, the business process to technical workflow may seem typically straight forward....but when you are doing it...you may find yourself that isn't all that easy.

I have 2 employees with 15 years of SAP HR experience...and having hard time dealing with such business translations.
One of the reason is.. the application requires strict customization....not some SAP standard functions...

Just like to point out...while I do agree...SAP hype "might" phase out like CISCO epidemics (CCNA, CNIE,..etc) one day...I can't deny the fact that....at this point, there IS alot of work in all areas.

Business model/process is never constant.....hence, there will always be "updates", "enhancements", "customizations"...and etc projects.

In terms of prospect, I personally think that ABAP and/or Java has better future than Basis. Basis is the layer beneath the front-end interface within the legacy R/3 system, which will become obsolete in a few years time and replaced by newer SAP ECC, which utilises the web application server which supports web services.

Any of you guys registered for Axon's ABAP Cadet December intake program? The closing date was two weeks ago but I have yet to be called up for an interview (despite my status in JobStreet listed as 'under consideration'). Should I call them up to inquire about my status?

Hi lyk,

How much is the cost for the certification exam? It is a full time 5 weeks training, so do i need to tender my resignation letter in order to attend the training? It's quite a risk if i am not hired after the training.. cry.gif

2k per sitting... there will be just one sitting only... should you tender your resignation letter? erm... it depends on you... i couldn't give you much advice as we both don't know what will us be after the training right? shakehead.gif ... but if i were you, i will take the risk and tender my resignation letter... as i know, SAP is quite demanding nowadays... cool2.gif ... just my 2 cents...

mmm... due to economic downturn right now, i'm not so sure if there's much jobs opportunity available...

still, the decision lies in your hand... have to think carefully ooo... laugh.gif ...
