How to update iPhone 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 Unlocked (8 simple steps for Mac & PC)

Notes & Warnings
-I don't know why but almost all the other guides I've seen on the net have you restoring all the way down to 1.0.2. That's unnecessary.
-Though I haven't tried it, the same procedure will also work for 1.0.2 phones. You may need to revirginise first.
-Look here for 1.0.2 revirginizing.
-This will not work on OOTB iPhones with the new 4.6 bootloader. (OOTB at the moment are 1.1.2s. Rumour has it that some new 1.1.1s are coming with the new bootloader too.)
-Don't be afraid to try. Even if you missed a step, you'll just have to start over. There's almost no chance of bricking the iPhone.
-Having said that, here are 3 warnings:
- 1. Do this at your own risk.
- 2. For those still on 1.0.2. If your iPhone has been unlocked previously with AnySIM 1.0, it must be virginised first.
- 3. Do not run AnySIM 1.2.1u in 1.1.2.

Requirements
My starting point was a virginised, activated, jailbroken, unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone. (which most of us have)
You'll also need a WiFi connection for the iPhone.

Software required (Mac)
- iTunes 7.4.2 (for iPhone Restore & Update)
- iNdependence 1.2.5 (PC users will need iPhuc or iBrckr instead of iNdependence, they are only used to kick the iPhone out of DFU mode)
- If you're using iTunes 7.5, you'll need iNdependence_v1.3_beta2 & MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip
Download iNdependence_v1.3_beta2.zip
Download MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip
- FuGu (Mac sftp, scp client for copying files to the iPhone) Download Fugu-1.2.0-English.rar
- WinSCP for Windows

Files Required (links to come)
- Apple iPhone Firmware 1.1.1
iPhone1_1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.part1.rar
iPhone1_1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.part2.rar
- Apple iPhone Firmware 1.1.2
iPhone1_1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.part1.rar
iPhone1_1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.part2.rar
- AnySIM 1.2.1u (for unlocking) Download anySIM1.2.1u-independence125
- 1.1.2 Jailbreak Download 1.1.2-jailbreak-UPDATED.zip
- BSDSubsystem, OpenSSH & Oktoprep via Installer
- pntedit Download pntedit_build_3.zip

Steps *Please note distinction between Restore & Update.
1. Restore* to 1.1.2 using iTunes
Put your iPhone into recovery mode. (Hold Power & Home buttons. When screen goes black, release Power only. While still holding Home, plug in the cable.)
Click Restore.
This will give us 1.1.2 and baseband 04.02.13_G

2. Restore* down to 1.1.1 using iTunes
Put your iPhone into recovery mode (see above) & connect to computer, option-click Restore
Select the iPhone 1.1.1 ipsw file.
It will end with a 1015 error. That's OK.
Quit itunes and open iNdependence. iNdependence will kick the iPhone out of recovery mode.
PC users, use iBrickr
or iPhuc and issue the following commands:
cmd setenv auto-boot true
cmd saveenv
cmd fsboot

This will give us 1.1.1 and retain baseband 04.02.13_G

3. Activate & Jailbreak 1.1.1 using jailbreakme.com
Instructions from http://jailbreakme.com/safari.html
- On the Activation Screen, slide "slide for emergency" to get to the dialer pad.
- Call *#307# & the phone will ring
- Delete *#307#, type in 0 and hit Call again.
- Press Answer, Hold & Decline.
- Go to Contacts and create a new contact. Create 2 urls:
Code:
prefs://1f
http://jailbreakme.com
- Select your WiFi network by prefs://1f.
- Press home and call number 0.
- Answer, Hold & Decline.
- Go to the contact again and touch http://jailbreakme.com
- Install AppSnapp
- This will take a while, be patient & wait till the phone rings. Wait again and the phone should reboot by itself.

This will also install Installer for you.

4. Alternate (replaces steps 4 & 5 below) Unlock 1.1.1 using AnySIM 1.2.1u Thanks to mliberatore.
Add this source to installer: http://rep.frenchiphone.com
Install AnySIM 1.2.1u via Installer. It's in FrenchIphone.com
Set Auto-Lock to Never.
Run AnySIM to unlock the iPhone.
Jump to Step 6

4. Install BSDSubsystem & OpenSSH
Use Installer to install the above 2.

5. Unlock 1.1.1 using AnySIM 1.2.1u
Set Auto-Lock to Never.
Use FuGu or WinSCP to copy AnySIM 1.2.1u to /Applications on the iPhone.
Run AnySIM to unlock the iPhone.

6. Install & run Oktoprep on 1.1.1
Use Installer to install Oktoprep and then run it. It's in Tweaks (1.1.1)

7. Update* to 1.1.2 using iTunes
Connect iPhone to iTunes and do an update. (NOT RESTORE)
This will give us 1.1.2 and baseband 04.02.13_G.
Phone will still be unlocked but it's jailed & not activated.

8. Activate & Jailbreak using 1.1.2 Jailbreak (the .JAR file)
PC users will need Java Runtime.
Run the 1.1.2 Jailbreak on your Mac/PC
On completion it'll reboot twice.
This will give us activated, jailbroken, unlocked 1.1.2 with baseband 04.02.13_G. (ie the latest & the greatest)

9. Fix dialer/SMS crash with pntedit for AppSupport
Basically you'll need to patch AppSupport with pntedit with the following values:
my 60 00 0 1 7
my 60 00 0 1 8
my 60 00 0 2 7

or

Download my patched AppSupport. http://rapidshare.com/files/71092650/AppSupport.my.zip

or

Use Installer.app to install iWorld. It's in Tweaks (1.1.2) It fixes the crashes and uses French rules for callerid matching. (untested by myself)

This will fix the iPhone crashing when you try to dial using the keypad.
Calling from an Address Book entry is OK.

DONE

Bro I think you can try using iWorld which is available under installer app......it stated that it could fix the crashing but I don't know if Malaysia supported. Tried it under 1.1.1 but it stated it needs 1.1.2. (Obviously) Anyway, nice guide. Will try it once I make time. rclxms.gif

Raymond, thanks for the heads up on iWorld. I haven't looked at how it works but appsupport has a limit of 32 entries so they couldn't have possible catered for each & every country unless they approached the problem in a different way. Anyway I couldn't find iWorld in Installer.app. Which repository is it from?

Soonwai, the iWorld source is from Conceited Software. It's under Tweaks (1.1.2). It stated that it fixes crash on 1.1.2 when used with foreign SIM cards. When I run iWorld, (under 1.1.1) It stated "Size mismatched, your Appsupport framework not supported" or something like that.

Yeah, AppSupport 1.1.1 is totally different from AppSupport 1.1.2. I don't see iWorld and I have both Conceited Software & Conceited Software Beta repositories. Wierd.

Edit: nvm, just did a refresh and it's there now. Thanks!

Hmmm......weird indeed. iWorld is listed in conceited software webpage. I found it when I check the "Recent Package" in Installer app. I'm using Installer v3.0b8 by the way.

Edit : Oh ok cool!

I would say that would depend on the user. Since everyone is different, it'll be difficult to put a general feel on it.

Bro soonwai, any luck trying the iWorld? I hope it would let you edit your Appsupport 1.1.2 natively. It would help a lot.

Just to double check, do i need to un'unlock the phone using onesim first before i restore to 1.1.2? I've read a howto in modmyifone website that states that you need to run onesim first before restoring to 1.1.2.

@Vassele: Not necessary to run Onesim before the the first 1.1.2 Restore. It wouldn't hurt either if you did so you can if you like. I didn't.

Haven't tried it personally but from what I've read, it succeeds in stopping the crashing of Phone & SMS app but it doesn't patch AppSupport for proper number decomposition so CallerID/Address book matching won't work all the time. It's actually patching AppSupport with "my 60" where France used to be.

Here you go.

http://rapidshare.com/files/71092650/AppSupport.my.zip

Remember to rename AppSupport.my to AppSupport. The permissions should be correct but please double check and ensure that it has the same permissions as the original AppSupport. Wouldn't hurt to make a backup of the original AppSupport.

How'd the upgrade go?

Help!!!
Stuck... I've done every step right up to Step 8 where I'm suppose to use Java to run the 1.1.2 Jailbreak. FYI, I'm using Windows XP, when I clicked the "windows.bat" file, a screen opens and imediately close.

How should I overcome this step?

you can click at "jailbreak.jar" file also. "window.bat" only to show you the progress.
Follow the "jailbreak.jar" file progress bar until it's finish.

Yes you can delete those apps once you're done patching it. I've deleted it and it still works like a charm.

My phone is now 1.1.2 and working perfectly. Calls and SMS in and out without problem so far, thanks to iWorld.

My phone is a 1.1.1; downgraded to 1.0.2 jailbroken and unlocked to 1.0.2 by local seller over here. Personally upgrade back to 1.1.1 jailbreak and unlock a few days ago.

The weird thing is, in the process of unlocking using anySIM 1.21u, the program indicate that it CANNOT unlock my phone and ask me to shut down. I was furstrated so I wend on with the final 1.1.2 jailbreaking and guess what, it's jailbroken AND unlocked. Anybody encounter this before?

Thanks soonwai for your guide.

The shorter method detailed above, which bypasses the v1.0.2 portion of the downgrade, does shorten the process significantly and works like a charm. I am now enjoying a fully unlock'd and fully functional v1.1.2 iPhone. Everything works.

Lately i've been reading that some ppl are experiencing problems with their iphone due to installation of 3rd party applications - phone won't boot, very laggy, not ringing in sleep mode etc.

So far, i havent really installed that much 3rd party apps so my iPhone is still fine. But just in case, if i were to have any problems, how do i 'restore' it?

Can i just start from step 2, i.e. downgrade to 1.1.1 and continue then on since that my baseband is already 04.02.13_G?

If i were to do a restore, will it erase all the 3rd party apps that i have installed or do i need to manually delete em using winscp over wifi?

Thanks.

Actually, I had a question with the new AppSupport file.... I've been trying to get it to work with BOTH Singapore and Malaysia (I do a lot of travelling between both). It seems I can only get the iPhone to recognise either one or the other, but not both.

Here's an extract of my file...

us 1 011 1 3 7
ca 1 011 1 3 7
my 60 00 0 1 7
my 60 00 0 1 8
my 60 00 0 2 7
my 60 00 1 3 6
au 61 0011 0 1 8
au 61 0011 0 2 8
sg 65 00 0 0 8
sg 65 00 0 8 8
jp 81 010 0 1 9
jp 81 010 0 2 8
jp 81 010 0 3 7
jp 81 010 0 4 6
jp 81 010 0 5 5

Would appreciate it anyone had any ideas (or a file they already had that does work with both formats).. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hey Megatron,

Not quite sure it works though... iWorld simply rewrites the generic rules for France and changes the country code (http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7736).

What I need is if I'm on a Singapore SIM back home in Johor, the caller id will just show the area code with the Country IDD (eg. 013 xxx xxxx instead of +6013 xxx xxxx or 07-222-1234 instead of +607-222-1234). It'd be great if there were a rule for everything... Like the old AppSupport logic.hmm.gif

Singapore is actually fairly simply. As per my post previous, the 2 AppSupport entries actually cover Singapore numbers.

Examples:
Singapore Mobile: (+65) 123 45678 (international) local callerid will show 123 45678
House/Landline: (+65) 1234 5678 local callerid will show 1234 5678

Actually, it's basically the same rule... 8 digits, no area code (since it's a small place anyway). Only Country code. icon_idea.gif

Added on November 30, 2007, 10:06 amI've added this in Hackint0sh already, but thought I'd share here as well.

I've experienced a couple of issues when Jailbreaking my 1.1.1 iPhones (in the process of upgrading the 1.1.2)... For me, it's probably taken about a grand total of 7 hours+ to jailbreak 2 phones (my wife's and mine). Most of the time, it just kicks the phone back into the actiivation screen and then does nothing.

Couple of things i've learnt:

1) When back at activation screen, slide to make an emergency call, and then leave it there instead - otherwise the power-saver will kick-in much earlier.

2) If you're at your modem/router. Look at it. Kill all other Net activity and just let the iphone access the jailbreakme.com website; once it kicks back to the activiation screen, it still should be downloading some data (ie internet activity) - if it dies and there's no activity (donwloaded) at all, chances are it won't work (give it about 5 minutes a go though). Try again... A slow stream (or sporadic bursts) of data at least tells you there's something going on in the background.

3) Try & try again... smile.gif

Actually, after all this, I'm STILL wondering why no one else has a mirror of the site. I highly suspect all the problems for the site are due to the EXTREME volumes of people trying to access it at any one given time. It'd also help if there was a link from the main site (to prove intergrity of source).

My learnings and 2c.

Hi Great_cookie
I have replied your Q regarding the roaming caller ID match in Hackint0sh, please test this out for Malaysia while roaming,

my 60 00 0 0 8
my 60 00 0 0 9

I have changed mine to this(Maxis user), it works too on all my caller match with contact number define using 071234567, +6071234567, 0312345678, +60312345678, 01x1234567 and +601x1234567. For singapore, i think sg 65 00 0 0 8 should be sufficient (since all 8 digits), why do you have sg 65 00 0 8 8 ?

The only problem that I have for matching is when you are on the same network (e.g. maxis to maxis), the caller match doesnt work for 1234567 without the 012 or +6012 prefix. How about in SG? does it work by just keying the number alone? 12345678 without +65 on the dialpad?

By the way, I was the contributor for the Calldata for both Malaysia and Singapore, pls check out the mobile in Singapore whether it display the right mobile carrier, it really take me quite a while to key in all the 800 entries in the excel file. sweat.gif Thanks

Thanks.

As for roaming, as long you are not in the 8 countries as defined in the APPSUPPORT (for 1.1.2 users), I think the PHONE(Dialpad) and SMS functions will failed
