The long await that phenom finally launched. Although cant over performance intel quad core, still is a good start.
Being priced slightly lower, phenom will be a cheaper quad core CPU to date.

note neccesarily, for the value and mainstream consumers it is looking quite good though biggrin.gif

the CnQ II looks very promising as well, if only the price segment is good biggrin.gif

agreed. This the 1st phenom launched.

Aspected to c some more near future. For mainstream, AMD will be a better choice.

Actually, we dont really knw what happen.

For what I learned, intel procs are much more muture than AMD.
But we should take note AMD platform (mainboard + proc) is more economic.

For those who really want highest performance, intel is the choice.
For those who just want to buy a good and more future proof PC, they may consider AMD (no need to upgrade their mainboard).

phenom only can use in the motherboard that have 790fx chipset?

most AM2 mainboard (with AMD690, geforce 5 n 6 series chipset) can support phenom with a BIOS upgrade.

But u can only get 2000 hypertrans bus for these mainboard.

If u do go for a cpu with 125watt above, the m/board siute u well.

I using 780g oxo. Besides there many phenom with lower 125watt, likes the phenom x3 series.

U can check the price for this on the latest compuzone pricelist.

just an opinion,

for those who waiting for a motherboard which can support all the phenom series, maybe better off waiting the new 790 chipset, paired with sb750.

Do note oxo the power phase design. Better off to get a 5 phase one. Importance remainder, all the power capasistor should be passive cooled for then to be more able overclockable and for long term use.

It is not the problem with 780g chipset. Just for time being, this chipset is aimed for everday use pc. More manufacturer just using 4 phase power design. Further more, the new phenom x4 9950 will be TDP 140 watt n much bigger than the recent 9750 or 9850 TDP.

For those to aim on motherboard that can support all phenom, be prepared to have budget at least RM450 till close to RM1000 for the higher end one.

The problem with nVidia chipset is heat and some driver problem. If not, mainboard based on this chipset is pretty well deigned. For those interest, can check the biostar n oxo asus website.

Ps: AMD will shine again soon. As long as they manage to overcome the lost they taking now. If the competition without AMD, then as an end user, we all will experiencing much much higher CPU price. For now, AMD still have a strong hand on mainstream market. Their price (CPU + mainboard) far more reasonable than the competitor. Who will buy CPU without a mainboard...

from review, the 9950 consume less power than the 9850BE. But we do need a better power design motherboard. like the one comes with 790FX.

May be should wait for the 790GX mainboard, which will be launch hopefully the end of this month.

AMD CPU price update:

From the price list disappeared the processor phenom X4 9850 (2.5 GHz) Black edition, although formally it will be sold in parallel with Phenom X4 9950 (2.6 GHz) Black edition for some time. The processor phenom X4 9850 (2.5 GHz) has a limited multiplier, but its price is equal to $235. The processor phenom X4 9750 (2.4 GHz) is now released in the 95 W TDP version , the price of both versions was equal to $215. In the price position $195 was engaged the processor phenom X4 9650 (2.3 GHz), and the model phenom X4 9550 (2.2 GHz) . Let us note that both processors are based on B3 stepping. The three core processors phenom X3 fell in price to the value from 10,3% to 13,8%. AMD removed the models athlon X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) Black edition and Athlon FX-74 (3.0 GHz). Now appeared the 65 nm processors athlon X2 with high frequencies. Prices of dual core processors were also lowered, maximum by 27,4%.

Mayb is good time to get phenom x3...

i dunno about amd, but nehalem is coming out soon
and i think amd is kinda dead in the processors game

for high price and high performance, AMD sure cant compete. But for budget segment, AMD still got strong hold, especially combination with it 780G mainboard. Intel still dont have a powerful integrated chipset for budget segment.

well, if i wanna upgrade my current 6400+ to phenom 9850/9950 is it worthy?  unsure.gif

i mean roughly guys, how many % increment in it n i'll oc it too...

i'm planning this to reduce the bottleneck to my gc when doing cf later. wink.gif
*
Just an opinion: Stick with 6400+ for the moment n wait for the price to go down abit more. For oc, maybe can get a motherboard with sb750. Expected to be more ocable.

for high TDP CPU, we need at least 4 phase power design with cooling (like those with heatpipe). Without that may cause overheating n the power caps will burst n the mainboard will die.
