This is a recent incident that reportedly came to light in Zhangjiang, Shanghai,China
A privately owned company developing cross-border e-commerce SaaS software hired an Indian technical team lead. He was a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and had worked at Amazon India for three years.
When he joined, everyone thought the company had recruited a top-tier engineer.
During his first month, he emailed HR requesting permission to expand his team and recommended several “former colleagues” he had worked with before.
In the second month, seven Indian employees joined the company one after another.
By the third month, citing the need for a “code security and compliance upgrade,” he restricted write access to the core code repository so that only he and those seven employees could modify it.
In the fourth month, after demanding that his monthly salary be increased from RMB 30,000 to RMB 80,000 and having the request rejected, he allegedly locked the company’s access to the core code repository and cut off access permissions, effectively holding the project hostage. As a result, development was brought to a standstill for 48 hours.
The company’s operations team eventually regained control by resetting the global access keys. According to the report, no data was leaked, and all eight employees were dismissed. See less
