No change: Retirement age remains at 60
By New Straits Times
July 8, 2026 @ 9:57am

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has decided there is no need to raise the retirement age.

Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the cabinet decided today that the retirement age would remain at 60.

In 2025, then Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said there was a need to raise the retirement age to 65 in both the private and public sectors.

However, she said that the government was not rushing into a decision and that the Public Service Department (PSD) was carrying out a comprehensive study on it.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat then, Zaliha said that the study covered various aspects including health, productivity, promotion opportunities for younger officers, as well as the short- and long-term fiscal implications.

Previously, six members of parliament had proposed raising the mandatory retirement age for civil servants to 65, while also expressing concerns about the potential impact on job opportunities for fresh graduates and calling for a phased implementation.

There has been ongoing public discourse on the retirement age, amid concerns that many still did not have sufficient funds for retirement.

On Monday, Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong told the Dewan Rakyat that fewer than four in 10 active Employees Provident Fund members had saved enough for their age.

He said only 3.04 million EPF members, or 38.3 per cent of members aged 18 to 60 had reached the basic savings level expected for their age as of May 31.

If retire age increases, more new jobs has to be created. If not younger generation cannot get job because their grandparents are still working laugh.gif

Companies may find excuse to fire you so that they can hire fresh one with lower salaries smile.gif

The truth is, you can retire as soon as you saved enough to cover life expectancy duration expenses including inflation.
.
But Malaysian cibai, no savings at all, gov need to lock up their own cash to prevent ppl from spending it to 0 before dying.
Imagine all the old fucks that have to sleep on the street, that will be a bigger issue.

All welfare will be spent on helping these irresponsible fucks, burden the next Gen.

You must be old.

Anneh remember youngest retirement age was 55

No need worry. In the future our child or grandchild will only work max 2-3 years before they can fully retire and receive UBI.

Retirement age has nothing to do with retire
It's WHEN you can take out your KWSP money

They wanna make sure you can't use it
That's also why they don't wanna control all the junk food out there
