Woot! Big thanks to Inter Asia Sdn Bhd for giving me lots of new toys to play with again. Inter Asia is the official distributor for Thermalright products in Malaysia. After disappearing from Malaysian retail shelves for the longest time, Thermalright has made a triumphant return to Malaysia. Got myself the KING of coolers right now, the IFX14. Also got the HR03 Plus for my 8800GTX and also some lovely HR07 Duo Type L ram coolers.




Wokeh here comes the pix.











Look at the Intel Q6600 cooler next to the IFX14. Sooooooooooo puny compared to the IFX14.









The backside cooler as Thermalright calls it, next to the IFX14 This thingy cools the backside of the CPU from behind the mobo.











Side view of just how massive the IFX14 is. The size of 1 side is even bigger than the XP120 I had last time. Now, just imagine 2 units of XP120 sandwiched together to make the IFX14. That's how massive it is.











Now look at the big fat heatpipes. 8mm size! Just to give you an idea of how fat the heatpipes are, they're as fat as a stick of cigarette.










Here comes the HR03 Plus for the 8800GTX.







Even the HR03 is bigger than the Intel Q6600 cooler.









Finally the ram coolers called HR07 Duo Type L.

Even the ram coolers use 2 heatpipes per stick! Now, let's get some 667 valuerams and pump in some nice fat voltage and OC them to the skyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.













I took off the stock Intel HSF n cleaned off the thermal paste totally.













Removed everything from the mobo to start fresh.











Here's a look at the back of the mobo b4 I install the backside cooler. Look carefully and you can see the 6 points directly under the CPU socket. The backside cooler sits on top of that with a thermal pad to dissipate even more through the back of the mobo.








Here's the backside cooler all installed.








Next up was the rams. Here they are all installed n ready.

Finally the IFX14 is fully installed on my Striker Extreme mobo. Just look at all the heatpipes on the mobo. Really heatpipe madness now.

Let's move on to the HR03 Plus for the 8800GTX now.

Here's how the 8800GTx looks like when naked.







Voila! 1 super duper cool 8800GTX.

After trying out the temperatures on a single card with the 90mm fan on the HR03 Plus, I then installed 70x10mm fans on the heatsinks so I can use a SLI set up in my rig. Here's the HR03 Plus with 70x10mm fans being installed on them.

After doing that for both cards I realised there wasn't enough space on top of the casing. I had to remount the 70x10mm fan on the underside of the HR03 Plus for the top 8800GTX like in this picture.














Here's how it looks like with everything installed on the mobo. I just love the way everything looks. It's like a picture out of SimCity. Looks like a whole city block of buildings eh? I changed out the blue LED fan for an aluminum Evercool fan in these pics to see if the aluminum fan would make a difference to the temperatures. Turns out, there was no difference in temps.

















After that I decided to try another fan I had. It's a 120x38mm NMB fan. The 38mm thick fan closes the gap between the 2 radiators so that the fan doesn't just suck air in from the sides. This will ensure it pulls air all the way from the front radiator through to the back radiator to ensure maximum cooling.

Lot's of people have asked me how on earth all that copper n aluminum is going to fit inside a PC case. Well, I used a Silverstone TJ07 which I modified myself. Here's how it looks like with everything inside. As you can see, it's a pretty tight fit. I will also try and see if it all fits inside a standard ATX size case later on. I'll be fitting it all inside an Encloxure Wizard case to see if everything will fit nicely. My main concern would be the backside cooler of the IFX14. That will come later and I'll be sure to update this thread with pictures of how it all fits in the Encloxure Wizard case.
















OK. All the pictures of the installation process is done. Next up is a quick look at the temps of the CPU and gfx cards.

OK. Here's come the results of the HR03 Plus. Sorry for the pictures which are a bit big. If I reduce the size anymore, the words n temps cant be seen anymore.


Stock 8800GTX on idle. 75C












Stock 8800GTX on load while running rthdribl. 83C












8800GTX with Thermalright HR03 Plus on idle. 53C












8800GTX with Thermalright HR03 Plus on load while running rthdribl. 62C










That's a massive 22C drop on idle temps and another massive 21C drop on load temps. Absolutely mind blowing performance from the HR03 Plus. All the above tests were run in non air cond room at 31C room temp. The low temps are so mind blowing I'm still in a state of shock really. 20+ celcius drop is just crazy awesome. 100% mind blowing performance from the HR03 Plus.

Next up is the CPU temps with the IFX14.

The HR03 Plus is meant for the 8800GTX/Ultra n GTS. HR03GT is meant for the 8800GT.




The IFX14 should fit all standard size ATX cases. The only thing is whether the backside cooler will fit inside the top section. Most cases will be okay. The cases with a support bar near the DVD drive area may not be able to use the backside cooler. Anyway, it's not a major problem, you can just use the IFX14 without the backside cooler. I'll be installing everything inside a normal ATX sized case later just to see if everything including the backside cooler will fit inside. Will update with pix of that once I've done it.

Btw, is it heavy and will the clip break since the motherboard is leaning sideways in the casing? Can it fit normal ATX casings?

Yeah it's absolutely massive. It's quite light if u consider the size. 790gm. There are no problems with weight as it comes with a really sturdy metal backplate which also holds the backside cooler. It's made to fit normal ATX cases actually, oni thing is whether the backside cooler fits. Some cases may hafta skip the backside cooler if there is a support bar up there blocking it.

This is cool and one heck of a cooler I'm sure it performs superbly well and btw, how much does it cost you?

It doesn't cost me anything. I'm sponsored by them. The retail price is rm299 for the IFX14.

I haven't actually weighed the rig. The TJ07 itself is 12.9kg, PSU is 3.4kg, plus all the Thermalright copper n aluminum and all other stuff inside, I'd guess it's at least 20+ kgs. it's backbreaking to get it off my desktop. That's for sure.

Hmm, if I'm not mistaken, it needs 14cm fans right? Any good ones (produce good cfm) but not noisy or preferably noiseless?

Old age problem - can't withstand too much noise, lol.

U can use 14cm fans on it but the 14cm fans are only 25mm thick n leaves a gap in the middle. Look at my pics with the blue LED fan and u'll get what I mean. So it's not as efficient, drawing air tru the sides rather than tru the front radiator. What u can do is get sum nice n quiet Panaflo 120x38mm fans. That shud do a good job without much noise.

Actually I thought of doing it this way:

not a good idea based on my experiments with all the different configs I've tried. The best config i tried is fan in the middle n back. A lot of other guys haf also reported that's the best config.

What's the source? Some of these fellas crazy 1. I've even read a review where the fella complained that he cudn fit a fan on the front or back of the IFX14 coz the bottom will hit the gfx card, top will hit the PSU. so he did the testing fanless. Then he sed the cooler sux coz load temps were extremely hot. Then he gave it a rating of 4/10. LOLZ. He's so stupid that he doesn't even know to fit a fan in the middle of the IFX14.

lolz.... As u can see the graph is consist of tests using different fans... at the bottom of the graph... I suppose IFX-14 works better with more airflow than ultra-120 extreme...

Actually IFX works better with less flow. It's meant to perform same as Ultra Extreme but with less noise. Ultra Extreme needs more flow. IFX is meant for silent running 14cm fans. If u want performance then it needs 120x38mm fans.

But if ifx put high air flow it will beat ultra-120 extreme rite?

but then i remember that there are some heatsinks that performs no differently between high and low speed fans.

Which cooler are u refering to?...

The gfx card cooler is 410gm. The CPU cooler is 790gm. The ram coolers are about 150gm depending on which models u buy.
So all in, I have about 2kg worth of aluminum n copper pipes in there. No problems though, there's no bending or warping of PCBs. Gfx cards n mobo all look normal.

HR03 Plus is not compatible with 3870, you need to mod it to make it fit.

mine modded one with Delta 120x25mm fan fullspeed :
ambient temp 30C
stock cooler : 940/1280, vmod to 1.52vcore: idle 60 load 66 80% fan speed
using 875/1250 bios, vmod to 1.52vcore : idle 40 load 45
now oced to 1012/1330, vmod to 1.65vcore : idle 44 load 48
