I'm playing on Steam, so it's hassle-free update for me.

btw, what is the IGN nick you guys talking about huh? I know x-fire, it is something like the Steam community in game overlay where u know what your buddy is playing.

I guess my PC rig is the most standard to play. And I do feel ABIT of lag while walking through the smoke. But I have one problem. It takes more than a minute to run the multiplayer game after I clicked one of the server from xfire list. That didn't happen if I play single player. Anyone can help me with this?

for me, after double-clicking on the multiplayer icon, the splash screen will stay for some time before it enters the game, compared to the single player icon, where the splash screen will just stay for couple seconds.

For those people who have slow start for multi, what you need to do is

1. Go to the LAN connection that connects you to your modem.
2. Go to Properties.
3. Double click on TCP/IP
4. DO NOT automatically detect DNS servers. Set them manually. I leave it to you guys what dns servers you want to put in there.

It used to take me 2-3 minutes for it to start up, but after doing the above it loads instantly.

I saw the same solution from some forum as well. But is there any network savvy guy here that can tell me why the "auto obtain DNS setting" will cause the delay? This is because I don't like to hardcode any configuration into my system, unless it is absolutely necessary.

FYI, for Streamyx,

Primary DNS = 202.188.0.133
Second DNS = 202.188.1.5

ok... regarding the BolehVPN server, I have got quite a few times "connection problem". Some of the other player in the server also experience same problem at the same time, judging from their in-game chat message. Usually it will go away after 10 seconds or so.

What happened actually?

I have not seen any explanation either. What's your reason for not hardcoding it anyway?
*
ok.... I think I have figured out why the long wait during the Multiplayer splash screen when you launch the game. In a nutshell, only people who uses router will have this problem. Anyone who use dialer to connect to Streamyx will not have this problem.

It is caused by the "DNS Relay" function of the router. So the solution is either you configure your network interface to use specific DNS server instead of using the one from your router DHCP, or you can configure your router DHCP to return the DNS server IP of Streamyx. Both methods will skip your router as the "DNS Relay", so that your network interface will connect directly to the Streamyx DNS.

I use the second method, and it works.

for the multiplayer splash taking too long, refer to my earlier post above.

Added on February 26, 2008, 10:33 amFor a direct solution to the slow multiplayer splash screen, without all the technical crap, refer to Bryan's post below

We have unbanned all users and remove anti-cheat since the anti-cheat will ban all blacklisted key code. So now everyone can play in the server 202.71.106.90:28960 and those found cheating will be banned manually by admin. We will monitor and enable anti-cheat again in the future if cheating is rampant in this server.

As for those wanting to play a clean game with anti-cheat ON and Punkbuster ON, please use 202.71.106.91:28960 instead. This server will cater only to valid and original key players.

hey ori guys, lets start populating the second server!

buying through Steam have 3 advantages....

1. you dont need that freaking DVD to play the game!
2. you dont need to worry anything about CDKEY, just remember you steam username/password
3. automatic updates of patches.

BUT but, steam don't give you local cod4 server  rclxms.gif , hmm apparently none of the reseller have that to offer to their customer here besides:
1. Steam need to update their client every week which really turn me off
2. Steam account cannot be transferable, meaning you cannot simple sell your game once you decided to ge rid of it.

I ran steam server for TF2 locally as well but it really is ridiculous to have patches every week and takes forever to update it.
*
true...patches for TF2 comes like every alternate days.... sien. Usually for every major patch of TF2, there will be a minor patch after couple days to fix issues introduced by the major patch... haha

anyway, really hands up and a big thank you to the guys from BolehVPN for providing the Malaysian COD4 server.

hey guys, I found that using the second shotgun (the one with higher firing rate) when weaving through those containers in "Wet Work" is extremely satisfying. Just throw in a stun grenade, and rush in to kill few enemies within seconds. One shot kill FTW!

you get killed if you are near the window/door, you will get killed too if the building has opening at the roof above you.
