Have you tried the empty field on the right side?
No enemies would charge through there until you're on the field.
Combination of speed+air strikes+grenades and shooting any enemies a.s.a.p might help.
Maybe smoke grenades too.

I finished the game at Veteran level.

Don't kill anyone.
Like the Captain said...determine the enemies path.
Stay still and only move if necessary.
