older generation still remember how arrogance proton was during the proton wira days?

I still remember need to buy some optional stickers and spoilers else you wait long long to get your car lar.

You think China is the pioneer for new "used" car? No... it was Malaysia. Back then used car dealers booked new proton saga and sell for few thousands profit for those who can't wait 3-4 months for one.

I agree with you but its not like they have a choice. Also MITI is not protecting monopoly here their policy is blanket for all.
They are also protecting some legacy ICE manufacturers in Malaysia too. There are also the thousands of workshops that will not be able to service EV cars who will be out of business.

If it makes you feel better the US is implementing a more harsher policy - total ban on Chinese cars to protect domestic industries.

Its 2026.

Shameless mahathir mohamad stupid policies had resulted in big bailouts for Proton so many times.

Wait, are you mahathir mohamad?

Can share what enrichment class your billionaire children attend?

Kpop? Floral arrangement?

Miti is playing favorites lah. If dun want so many CN brands, can easily limit the smaller brands from coming in or put minimal capital requirement.

This is limiting one of the strongest brand with export requirement => plotek loh. No other car company has this export thingy.

B40 ppl aldy realize cheaper to run & maintain thus emas 5/7 selling well, just waiting for price to come down & range to go up.

Supply chain with EV will reduce cos less parts but will have a long time to transition, cos ppl at kampung still driving 20 yrs old Proton & Kancil.

What Miti do is just slowing down progress in the name of protecting industry.

My previous mechanic with just a shoplot in Puchong servicing Tesla pack aldy. Maybe he just watch Rich Rebuild utube & take a course kua.

If Japan i.e. Toyota/Daihatsu/Honda have EV or something we can rebadge, we won't be having this convo cos vested interest not affected.

Edit - those China ICE but EV kena. Different rules as bobo said

Who is the smart fella at Sime Barbie who think he can corner the Malaysia automotive market by buying up P2. He thought he had them cornered with both the lower and upper brands in one stable. Did the huge success of BMW China just 5 years ago gone in over their head? The few BYD models they manage to bring in as insurance may never be enough. The Gulf War changed all that and wake people up to demand for alternative i.e affordable EV. But it was never in the interest of Sime Barbie for the Malaysian market to have affordable EV's hence they go back to cable man to set ridiculous barriers

This mindset is same as mamatir protectism to failed proton and perodua. At the end rakyat is footing all the bill, buying low grade high price car today. Malaysia itself is too small to owned a car brand or assembly plant.
See Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, new Zealand, Denmark and other small countries, they find niches industry strength and opened economy.

So now still want go back old and failed protectism policy (and tongkak and favorism inside and outside)
??

lets see if can tipu rakyat again, after 40 years and new generation of buyers.

Justify?

There's no need for justification. Government will do everything that benefits them. Of course P1 and P2 got put on the table. They benefit somewhat but not as much as our government. After all, import duty and excise duty collection is a multi billions collection for our government. They wouldn't let the golden goose fly away.

Those who believe government turned a new leaf, well, reality sucks. Felda is still here and also LTH etc that kept bleeding billions but continuously being bailout years after years. Government leader already changed but some things still stay the same.

Well, many wouldn't believe it but MITI first priority is to protect local industries. Unless you become like Najib, he got too close to China, took many goodies and in the end, he broke the rules and open up a part of our steel industry (long products). Well, today there's only 1 or 2 of them left. Even then, both are struggling to match China pricing and continue to bleed every year.
