MITI is correct here. Malaysia doesn't have the market to support the number of EV companies that China has. If too many cars, they might just close shop after X number of years leaving car owners hanging (then will hear why gov never do this or that). So to give company's like BYD, Geely profits in order to be here long term - they made this rule. EV's can easily do CKD here as its easier to install an EV compared to ICE.
Good policy. Need less emotional unstable people on the internet and how come these 'car analyst' or 'specialist' dont understand long term positive impact of a policy like this. This post has been edited by ryujin0x: May 6 2026, 11:33 PM |

QUOTE(knwong @ May 6 2026, 11:32 PM) As per Bobo. This is akin of pushing Toyota away when they came to our shores when Proton was still in its infancy and because of byd being competitive those glcs who own Toyota BMW and other German brands have suffered a slow death. So tell me how is this good for us when it protects those glcs and suppliers? Also because of this byd pulls out of the country. So the very thing the goverment doesn't want to happen, happens when those owners are left without byd support.
