Simple answer...no...you can only get up to 1080i...

Compare with hdmi...hmmm...then I guess hdmi is better as ps3 output is in digital format...hdmi is digital..and the tv is digital..so no conversion needed hence minimal loss of data during transfer.

But if component (red, blue, green) it's analog connectin...susecptible to loss of data when converting from digital to analog...then convert to digital again to the TV...there also the question of data loss while the analog data is transfered thru the cables if you use cheap cables...

Unlike component...hdmi is not susecptible to data loss when data is moving thru the cables as it moves digitally so no such thing as cheap vs expensive cables...

i have an inquiry

im using HDMI as my video output to my lcd tv, but for audio, i wish to play 5.1 surround ...
so my options are either get a surround amplifier + speaker (which is bloody expensive) ...as alternative, i was thinking whether i can use computer 5.1 speaker (altec,creative..etc) to play surround sound system?

and my other concern is, is there any computer speaker comes with multiple chanel? like i wanna switch between PS3 and my computer.

i understnad my problem can b resolved by getting an amplifier, but it'll cost me a lot

There is a way is to get 5.1, however you'll need to check at the back of your PC's I/O(or if you have a soundcard with optical input, all the more better). If it has optical in, you can purchase an optical cable and connect your PS3 to your PC directly using the optical input. Configure in Windows to use 5.1 speaker setup like normal, then configure 5.1 surround as well under the PS3 Audio Settings.

So when ever you play your PS3, the sound will come directly from your PC. The downside of course, is that your PC needs to be turned on when ever you play your PS3.
