yes a portion of HDD is "hidden" file reserved as cache by the OS. not sure if it was 10%,12% or 16%. i'll confirm it and update the 1st post.

anyway, since this thread is reaching 2.4k post, anyone else interested to take over V2? actually i'm not much help when it comes to networking setup or troubleshoot. stuff to do with blu-ray/media server i also have no clue. if anyone else free to start FAQ V2, please do so and ask mod to pin it instead.

Hi All,

I've managed to find tis female Y-splitter cable (the pic below is the exact cable I bot) @ Sunway Pyramid for RM20 (I know it's expensive but I'm not gonna drive all the way to Jalan Pasar! :-P ):

Prob now is m I correct to say tht I'm short of a female-2-female connector since the other side of the female Y-splitter cable (the black connector) is a male?

Hi All,

I'm using an old school Altec Lansing ACS45 (PC speakers with subwoofer) with 22" Samsung 226BW LCD monitor.

I'm need to get the following items (pls refer to the attached screen capture for items #2 & #3):

1. HDMI to DVI cable
2. Y splitter RCA cable - highlighted in blue box
3. Connector - highlighted in red box

Can any1 tell me where can I get these from Sunway Pyramid IT centre for a reasonable price?

I think only UPDATE and THEME folders must be in the PS3 folder.

MUSIC, VIDEO and PHOTO should be main folders, like X:/VIDEO.

No, not all. But many do need a mandatory installation.

This has been repeated many times, the installation of games are only cache and data files. NOT the entire game itself, you still NEED the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3 to play.

Its not really "speeding up load times", technically it is. I've already explained it in a couple of pages back. So just search for it.

There are 2 ways now you can get audio out of your PC speakers.

1) Follow the diagram picture you posted before, which means you'll need to get an extra female Y-Splitter cable as well as a 2-way audio connector.

2) Directly connect your PS3's AV cable to the male Y-splitter you just bought, then connect the Y-splitter to the back of your PC(I assume your PC is nearby your PS3?) inline jack(audio in, usually blue colored). Then just adjust the audio in volume in Windows. So when ever you play your PS3, audio comes out directly through your PC to your speaker instead.

Well, pretty much it doesn't matter where the files are placed anyway except for UPDATE and THEME.

Since after all you can simply just set the "Display All" option which will show every content and file your external storage has.

Hi SSJBen,

Earlier tonight, I connected the Y-splitter (connected to PS3's Multi OUT cable) to my subwoofer's Line-In 2 (it so happens there are 2 Line-Ins on this woofer) and there was no sound. While checking for solutions on the web, I realised I had to change the sound settings on the PS3 to use the Audio RCA cable rather than the default (HDMI).

After trying your suggestion (option #2), which unfortunately didn't work...I tried again to re-connect the Y-splitter to my subwoofer's Line-In 2 based on my fren's (Ldragon) recommendation and it works!

Anyway, thanks for ur advice!

oh i see.....mine is a 80G but the system settings shows only 53GB/74GB available. so this 10% allocated by the system is the missing 6GB?

cos i only installed two games amounting to about 11GB so out of my 74GB free space, i should think have 63GB but the system is only showing 53GB right now. i wanna check where the other 10GB has gone but dunno how....pls help cry.gif

Of course you can display all. Then why did you post about the folder names in the first place, if it's really doesn't matter? tongue.gif

This is to easily enter the USB drive without browsing to the folder. biggrin.gif

that sounds correct. u have a 74GB HDD. the "80GB" is simply marketing trick that HDD manufacturer employs forever.

around 12% is reserved for cache. so u have ~64GB usable space.

here's some rough estimate

31/37GB
46/55GB
64/74GB
98/111GB
130/149GB
205/232GB
263/298GB

laugh.gif Because most of the time, many forgets theres a "Display All" option.

And for the people who doesn't know anything about the PS3, the follow the official guides where they did not state theres a Display All option either way.

Oh well....

It isn't a marketing trick Acougan.

Thats how data storage are made in the first place. 1mb doesn't equate to 1000kb, but rather 1024kb. This applies to bytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terrabytes, and petabytes. All of them equates to 1024(not 1000 exact).

So basically, an 80GB really only has 74.5GB of real storage space. HDD manufacturers call them 80GB to round them up to the closest figure while maintaining the jump space of 2GB(like how you see from 2mb, 4mb, 8mb and so on). Other than that, its just easier to say 80GB than saying 74.5GB.

So no, not a marketing trick. Its just how data storage is made.

this question is concerned with playing PS3 on a LCD monitor.
after reading the FAQ, it says make sure the monitor can support 720p. by looking at the monitor's spec sheet, how do i tell whether it supports 720p(what to look for?)
