Hi everyone!

Im currently studying abroad,in the UK but im finishing up next year, which is in july 2012.I was thinking of bringing back a car using a student AP.The thing is i need to know how these taxes are applied to a specific car,and how does it calculate (based on year of make?engine size?depreciation?)

There are 3 cars that i am considering to buy:

1. 2006 VW Golf GTI 2000cc,GBP5990
2. 2002 Honda Civic EP3 Type-R 2000cc, GBP3100
3. 2004 Mazda RX8 1300cc, GBP3600

From what i have read in a few other forums, the tax applied to a 2000cc cars is 171%,correct?But as i read through i noticed there's a depreciation percentage and popular makes factored in as well. This thing puzzles me.As the option suggests my number 1 choice would be the VW Golf GTI,but its the newest compared to the other 2,so i reckon the tax would be high.

Can any sifu here help me out?Like how to calculate the price of all those cars incl. taxes, shipping and everything?
If its true that i need to own the car at least for 9 months then i have to buy any of those early next month,as from what i've read there's no way i can backdate the ownership as nowadays MITI will confirmed straight with DVLA UK on my period of ownership of the car.

someone please help me out?many many thanks!!

Yeah cars in UK are dirt cheap especially those EU made cars..i was planning on using my friend's AP whose coming back at the end of this month to bring a W203 C200 which will only cost around RM40k inclusive of tax shipping and everything..but sadly since MITI now can check with DVLA UK regarding the registration date so had to cancel my plan  sad.gif

yeah true that, its amazingly cheap!well made my mind up finally, and im bringing back a 2001 Honda S2000,woot woot, but before that can happen, can any sifu here give me any tips on bringing the car back?As far as i am concern, the tax applied for a 2000cc cars currently is 171%,is it true?Assuming that it is :

1.The 2001 S2000 that im going for is about GBP3900,roughly RM19k.
2.So the tax applied is 171% of RM19,000..right?If that's so,the amount of tax that i have to pay is roughly RM32k

which brings the total amount that i have to pay (RM19k + RM32k) + shipping (RM5k)
=RM56k.which is about half the price of an S2000 based on market price currently.not bad huh?

but i noticed that depreciation value is also taken into account,so if its a 2001 car,and i bring it back next year,2012, which makes it 11 years old next year, will i get any further discount?

^ Does not matter what price you paid for it... but the price when it was made... Yen very high now...

Depreciate calculation based on the age of the car.

U can go to Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia official website http://www.customs.gov.my/ on the top of the main page there is a column called "hubungi kami",click on "pertanyaan kastam online".Put in your details on the inquiry section, they will reply to you within 3 working days. They'll send u a PDF file showing details such as docket price, tax, shipping price etc of the car u would like to bring back,in your case is that 62 months old Lexus IS250.

Im in the UK so i reckon the tax that is applied is a bit different no?I already sent my inquiry to kastam regarding the RX8, here are the attached file of the quote they gave, its a rough quote, just to give you an idea about how much will it cost so on so forth, but most people said that quote they gave is very near precise.
