Hi, Info here is very helpful. I need some advice please.

I study in UK and now UK PR over 10 years. I am a doctor and plan to bring my car back December 2010. This car is now near 5 years old original price 22,000 british pounds. I am not planning to work for government hospital, will my car still need to be taxed at normol rate?? I know highly skilled professional can have tax reduced for car import. The car is a heavily modified honda S2000 which is my pride and joy, really not keen to sell them...sad.gif

Thanks in advance.

Thanks you been very helpful! Do I need a prove of employment in Malaysia before I can arrange the car to be imported? I am currently on holiday in Malaysia, who can I call to get the details?

Warmest regards

Tax free..... no limitation on age of car (newer better in worth if you indent to sell), if you have a spouse/friend (Malaysian, more than 9 months in UK) that can import the S2000 (maybe with tax, but reduced greatly because of > 5 years), you can import another ( to sell to others, you'll make a tidy profit of up to 2x more than the car's worth)

How long generally for car to arrive in KL from UK? Can you recommend any company in UK from experiences of members in this forum?

So, I tried to understand the tax system as you described, plz correct me if I am wrong, if my car S2000 retail price is 27000. Than minus 17.5 vat which is 4725, left witrh 22275. As the car is over 5 years old, allowing for 70% reduction, left with 6683, thats when I get confused and do you times 120%? Is it the same for japanese car even if i bought in Europe?

Thanx!!!

Here a tip I have to mention...

... the car if possible must remain as stock as possible so the custom department has no excuse to charge you extra. Even extra cd-player/sound/video system adds value to the car. (Removed the "extra" things in separate boxes, together with your personnel items, if shipped together in a container with your car).

As leslieng, you mentioned heavily moddied... This may cause a problem. If engine/parts modified, but no outward/obvious appearance, it should be fine. You declaration of chassis and engine no. must be supported with documentation, or at least declared during application of AP.

For more info call MITI, the tax free professional AP... (maybe still applicable). If not you'll still qualify for the rather low tax (because of depreciation)

Seriously, if u re interested, I would like to acquire your service and expertise( and the opportunity also open to all members in this forum), Plz PM me your phone number. I asked MITI already as S2000 is rare car in Malaysia, no docket price is available.

My S2000 is modified, lots of time invloved in assembling the turbo parts, tuning by famous US tuner, Mase with power up to 500 bhp, corner weight balancing with Ohlins suspension achieving 50:50 balancing by F1 Red bull technician based in UK, Thats why the hassle to bring it back as I am not likely to own another car like this. I am happy to give u a ride as soon as the car docked in port klang tongue.gif

ps:: I am on holiday in Malaysia and will be leaving back to UK on this coming Friday

1. you can google internet or if ive not mistaken there is a list on cars docket price at MITI website, try to find the article from document 11(doc 11 is about bringing car back home) coz i had downloaded it last years and sadly couldnt remember where did i save it...

2. ok im not a economist so im assuming VAT=valorem added tax from my 101 econs years ago..so the docket price is the price when the car just rolled out the factory without any additional tax+excise or whatsoever(correct me if im wrong)...damn pure price FTW!!!
3.well its damn alot runners you can choose!!..what i can advise you is get few quotes and compare them, you can get reference from forumers here..well worst case scenario if dont get one, i'll get your things done with competitive pay!(hope its more than my annual leave trade off cost =p)

personally, an interesting case since its related to free AP on experts coming back home..well feel free to holla us for info..the best is ring MITI and ask the procedures, dont forget to get the officer's name

the best case since lame "please calculate my tax" thread...
btw, s2000!!!! damn rad car!!...no interest in lotus? hehe coz im dying the drive one.. =p

Called MITI, I can apply for AP but not tax free as I am not intended to work in Malaysia but in Singapore. As mentioned in this forum, there will be significant deduction in tax due to the age of the car.

ok 1 question..
what did MITI tell you?

Dear all,

It comes to a time for me to relocate to Malaysia after 20 years in UK. I have asked this question last year and now its for real. I have two cars and due to current economy downturn, there is no resale value for my cars; Honda S2000 and Honda Jazz both five years old.

I need to make a decision to import to Malaysia. Please correct me if I am wrong;

For Honda s2000, according to page 31 of the akta kastam 1967, after 5 years it valued at 25,000 approx. so consider the worse case senario at 222% tax, it will cost me MY 55500. correct? excluding feight and insurance.

For Honda Jazz, after 5 years will be 9500 and add 222% will be around 25,000, correct?

Both of the cars in my wife name, does it means that only she can bring one car in? And I cannot?

Lastly, can anyone direct me to the procedure of importing cars please.

Millions thanx!!!! Cheers

Thanks for your speedy reply, if I get my car across I own u a drink!! Thanx for the effort in replying my queries!! I will need Personal AP, can u suggest a malaysia shipping company to help out on the applications please? I came back to work in singapore so I cant use program pakar:(.

Secondly, I was frustrated that Honda UK dont know what is the docket price of my car, they dont even know what docket price means unsure.gif The PDF file someone posted few thread as I mention before wasnt correct? SO my calculation was wrong?

Please advice. I am lost!!!

QUOTE(Bedok @ Aug 31 2010, 03:19 AM)
Hi

You have 2 choices:
1 - Apply for "Program Pakar" incentive where you can bring back 2 cars tax free under 1 name (whomever applied). Please check Ministry of Human Resources for application forms and conditions. You can also bring another car under personal AP for your wife but this car you have to pay tax for.
2 - Apply for 2 personal AP, both your wife and yourself can apply for 1 AP each on condition that you live legally oversea for more than a year either as a student or working. You have to pay tax on these cars and dont forget that on personal APs, you can apply for discounts from Customs for up to 30%. As far as I know, on personal APs, they do not use the fix CIF value yet. They will use the docket price thus making the calculation a tad more confusing. Hunt around for my post on my Tax calculation in this thread and use it as an estimate. its post #427

In your case, you will have to change one car name into your name to make the AP application easier but you can talk to your agent where he can help in this issue. Dont worry, the shipping agent that you use to send your container over, assuming you are using Malaysian shipping company, can help. They will use an agent in Port Klang to handle the unloading of the container and this guy can help in applying for AP and tax/custom clearance for some fees.

If for some reason you wanted to do it yourself, these are the basic things that needed doing(this is for option 2):
1 - Apply for AP from MITI using form JK69 (3 AP, as 2 for cars and 1 for items) - they will need photocopy of your visa, V5 document, Insurance cert and plane ticket stub among other things. They have the power to call you for an interview but normally all you do is drop the form off at MITI and pick it up after 3-5 days. AP is only valid for 3 month so please only apply when the container is on the way.
2 - Port Klang - There is a lot of going back and forth here as you need to go between Port itself and Bangunan Kastam near Northport to get clearance for your container. Once they open your container, you can remove your stuff and the cars will be parked at the port for custom clearance. After that back to Bangunan Kastam for them to calculate your tax. This can take a few days as they might not believe your v5 and go there to inspect the car themselves.
3 - Discounts - You can apply for 20% discounts from Pengarah Kastam Selangor at Westport and another 10% from Putrajaya. But this is back then, I am not sure whether they still give these discounts anymore. This is where using an agent will make your life so much easier.
4 - Port Klang - Once you get the discount letters, bring it back to Bangunan Kastam to recalculate you taxes. Go to a bank to do a Bankers Draft on the exact amount addressed to Ketua Pengarah Negeri and bring it back to Bangunan Kastam to pay for the tax.
5 - Port Klang - All that done, you will go back to where your car is parked, you will have to pay parking fees (something like RM8 per day) and drive the car out. On the way out, they will check your paperwork for one last time at the gate and you are free. It is best to find trade plates for your car as you need to drive it on the road and JPJ/Police like to do roadblocks on Port Klang roads.
6 - Puspakom - Take your car and K1 form to nearest Puspakom centre and they will do checks (they will check tint, engine and chasis number and pillars around the door). I think it was RM25 or something.
7 - Insurance - get insurance for your car.
8 - eDaftar - this is the wtf moment. They just started doing this and theres only 3 company that can do it. They are lazy as hell too, whenever I call theres no one answering the phone. Check out this link : JPJ Portal
8 - JPJ - Bring your K1 and Puspakom cert (insurance cert if you have it, if not its ok as it is computerised and JPJ should have on the system that you have insurance for your car) Make sure that the company that did the edaftar has send the info over (WTF I thought its Edaftar as in ELECTRONIC) before you go to JPJ.
