One of the documents required for AP application is a copy of insurance policy of me for 9 months...

yeah, i'm here for almost 2 years, and according to DVLA, if i wanna drive, i'll need a UK driving license...so, can i still buy a car with malaysian driving license?

Added on July 5, 2010, 8:16 pmif i buy a car wif provisional driving license...d insurance for RX-8 cost around 5000 pound!
*
RUI, just to add, RX8 is under category sport type car = insurance group 15/16 = higher insurance cost.

PALSHIPPING was the company I used anyway. Ask for Nizam. Get a container, I think its about 950+ for a 40ft (can fit 2 cars) or 600+ for a 20ft. He should know who to use as their agent in Malaysia. The guy he always use is reliable and the charges is not that bad either.

The easiest way to get docket price is find out what the price of the car brand new in the UK and remove about 17% from that price. Its not exact but it can help in doing the estimate. For Hondas, customs will use the price in Yen instead of pounds sterling.
*
leslieng,
just be careful, japanese car are being calculated in Yen, thus with current yen value rising, your tax calculation might be off.

just brought in an civic EK4 from UK, year 1997. taxed ~RM13,000 by custom. bought there GBP1,300 only doh.gif
based on original civic ek4 price in japan JPY1,850,000 in 1997
u can refer to exchange goo-net for reference
http://exchange.goo-net.com/catalog/HONDA__FIT/

GBP500 or RM500 for a 20ft is cheap.....sounds illogical.

puspakom charge for inspection to change name : RM60

As soon as you arrive in Malaysia, either find an agent or start AP application yourself. It is not hard but if you live far from KL, I advise you to use an agent.
*
if you do live far from KL, except sarawak or sabah, it is better you do it yourself.
with complete document it will only take you 2hr to submit the document. no big deal. agents charges are ridiculous!
1 day leave will settle to submit.

maybe someone could add on the 1st page. just submit an application last friday.

Assuming you can get the discounts.... yes... around that RM22k....hope Yen will drop lower in 2011 (For now increased about 30% compared to early 2008, late 2007, that about a third  of the tax)
*
kanz,
the taxes should be about that. japanese car taxes are quite a lot right now. no escape on that.

based on my survey with local AP importer car seller, the taxes for the following car is approximately as below

wish - 2005/06 : not more than rm20,000
estima - acr-50 2006 : not more than rm50,000.

i was like whatttt???

keli-kun what does it mean by the AP is valid within 6 months from application approved? that means u have 6 months to clear all the necessary process and the vehicle from port?
*
means u have 6mth to get the car shipped and cleared in custom.

johnkor,
can always appeal. if no problem then usually AP approved.

hi unkle,

you can check docket price (estimate) here
Supra pricesto estimate your CIF

as for tax , it should be around 192% of the CIF value based on beastX simplified calc here

BeastX calc simplified

from my personal experience 16yrs tax does not reduced the tax much since now Yen is high. i brought in a car and was taxed around 120% of the price i bought oversea.

yup.. this is the model.. the old one without LSD and power like FD2R but still a type r nonetheless.. its more like a tamed FD2R.

and i already ask that guy in the above quote why he is selling much lower than other dealer in msia for this FN2R. i think others are selling rm140k - rm160k for it.

here the price for 2007 with new rims and high performance mods like k&n and kpro only cost around 9k - 10k pound. but again the taxes are quite high.

maybe i should buy it back in msia afterall..
*
because i think that seller is actually a scam. most car dealers in msia who advertised in mudah would definitely put phone number.
via email most definitely is a scam. the name zainab bt ali basir is a bit fishy for me. but not putting a phone number for a ridiculously cheap car, sounds indeed scam for me.
2007, keep for another 2yrs. can save summore smile.gif

beastx / hankey,

need your knowledge and opinion.
i brought in a car via UK as below
honda civic coupe
chassis - ej6
manufacturer in honda usa (north america honda plant)

is it right for custom to still charge me the docket price and tax based on japan model/price when this model is not produced in japan?
