will receive two AP (full tax exemption) + 2yr income tax exemption 15% (i think)...

bro if MITI hav no problem, u should imports a car from JAPAN,
there car is in good condition and low milage + much cheaper...

Personal AP ... needs criteria to apply... un-like open AP.... if you fulfil the needs than you are eligible. Before you can submit your AP application you'll need the car ownership of 9 months, 12 months stay, de-register, engine/chassis no.

For you friend to sell you his AP.... lots of forging of documentations will be involved, or under-table thingy for MACC to investigate. Beside your friend will have to own the car for 2 years in Malaysia before transfer is allowed.

AP issued is valid for 3 months for you to use it to bring in the car..... not specifically on the date your friend arrive back in Malaysia.
Example: Your friend can apply at MITI around June (even though he reached Mal in March)... and the AP issued at mid June will be valid till mid-Sep for him to bring the car in (but to be safe form queries, he'll need to own the car for 9 months before March).

^This is for direct open dealings with MITI..... If you go through agents, money can smooth through any restrictions/barriers.

Forwarding Agents with connections will get you through, you pay for their service...

Does anyone have any experience importing cars to the United States from Malaysia? My family is considering joining me in the States and my dad loves his Volkswagen Scirocco very much (which isn't available in the United States). Car imports to here is very stringent (has to meet tons of quality and emission standards) but let's just put that aside for a moment. Is there anything to do, on the Malaysian side?

And before anyone asks, RHD isn't a problem, there's tons of RHD vehicles in the States. And yes, they're mostly JDM tuners.
