HI Guys i need your help. I had been working in Australia for more than a year and i bought a second hand car (Honda Jazz - Semi auto 1.5cc Hatchback). It was built on March 2003. I bought it on April 2008 and was planning to ship it back to Malaysia next month (February 2009). I bought it for A$15,400. Here is some of my questions:

1) If i ship now, when are they counting the age of my car? When the car reach the port in KL? or when it get ships from here? As you can see, if i ship now, obviously the car will be 5yrs and 11 mths and by the time it reaches KL, it will be > 6yrs.

2) How long will the shipping takes from Australia to Malaysia (approximate)?

2) On what value will they be calculating the customs/taxes? at my purchase price or at brand new price?

3) Can any bro that help me what is the tax/value (and all other charges) that i might need to pay if i ship it back

4) Is there an office (Eg custom office or MITI) that will tell you how much taxes i need to pay before i ship my car back? I don't want to ship it back and then they tell me i need to pay RM50-60k then i really can't afford it

5) Also out of the topic, anyone knows any removalist which is highly recommended to move my stuffs back to KL from Australia?

Appreciate all your help

So does that means based on your est.

Shipping and doc from Australia to M'sia - RM3-5k
Tax and custom charges (in M'sia) - RM10k-15k
Port Kang clearnce - RM1k
Total - RM21k (MAX - estimate)?

By the way, my car is made in japan does that have discount too? Can i call up the custom officer or send them my docs for a quote before sending my car back?

Hi BeastX,
Thanks for your info. I noticed in page 6, there is a price lists from one of the bro here about types of car and CIF Value and the value of Honda JAzz 1.5cc VTEC is around RM41,627. Do you know what that means? also how come based on your computation the CIF is only $14,900? Is the one $41,627 stated in the price lists FOB Value? I'm a little confuse. Thanks once again for your help

Depreciation value applies to FOB (the RM 14.9k from 50k that I estimated). CIF is FOB plus the insurance and shipping. If CIF is that much lower already at RM41.6k (before depreciation). Then, your tax will be much lower that what I calculated.

Thanks for your Info BeastX. I called up Cargo Online (www.cargoonline.com.au) and they sent me a quote based on my following info

Car type: Honda Jazz 1.5cc Auto
Year: 2003

They said they provide 2 different service. 1 is container and another one is RORO.

1) Container

Can load up stuffs into the car and outside the container

Costs
Container: USD1,205
Inland trucking to depot from metropolitan areas: A$180
Container loading and trucking to wharf: A$680
Original handling and port charges: A$454

This does not include insurance and got 2 options.

1) Total loss - 1.5% of the value you wish to cover + $50 processing fees (incuding theft, ship sinking, etc)
2) Full coverage - 2.5% of the value you wish to cover + $50 processing fees (same as above except it includes major dent, loss of parts but not covering minor damages)

2) RORO
Not allow to load stuffs into the car and only ship to Singapore

Costs
Container: USD1,090
Inland trucking to depot from metropolitan areas: A$200
Original handling and port charges: A$230

Insurance the same as above.

Based on my computation if i'm gonna take the container, it will costs me approx A$3,200 which is approx RM7,840 excluding insurance and charges on Port Klang. Do you guys think it's expensive?

That is quite a huge chunk of moolah for 20ft?... As a comparison...a 20ft from japan to Port Kelang is about RM4k (before Yen appreciated, about RM5k now).

Ya it's the 20ft container. RM7-8k is so expensive

Hi BeastX,
Can we call custom malaysia and give them the detail to check out from them how much taxes and charges we need to pay before sending the car back? Cos based on my computation (also depending on the FOB Value at custom's price lists) and if their price lists is anything about RM50k i will be looking at around RM20-30k to bring back my honda jazz which is 6yrs old (also if it's not negotiable la). SO i just wanna get a quote from them first see can afford or not and then later stage when arrive, try to negotiate somemore. Hope you know what i mean. If yes, i will try call the custom malaysia up or if you have a specified number to call

Thanks

I called up the custom today at 03-8882 2346 and told me i need to pay effective tax rate of 150.25%. Didn't tell me exact figure and at what cost price. Not really helpful. She told me to submit my invoice? What invoice? I also don't know. I actually asked my father to call since i'm overseas. He also don't know much. SO complicated. Sigh...

Yeah...

I think he also did not deduct 15% off from the FOC price. I think he deduct the 15% from the 75%. that's why he got 60%. Also got another quote from a shipping company charging me AUD4,400 for shipping including 1 hour loading time. IF more than 1 hours charge AUD100 per hour. Even more expensive than my first quote.

Third. I try to get a quote from alliedpickford.com.my she said not advise me to bring back my car from overseas and gave me an attachment saying can't bring back car > 5yrs so i told her it's common with ppl with AP permit. SHe said she will check out the AP permit things and get back to me. She will need someone to come to my house to measure my car waa...

Added on January 20, 2009, 4:03 amHi BeastX,
I believe you have shipped your car from overseas to Malaysia last year before right? Can you tell me what is the process you did? Like once you get your AP permit, what you do next?
