Hey guys, im actually planning to buy a new 2011 merz C class coupe here in aus. and it costs probably around 75k+ AUD which amounts to almost RM300k.

I was wondering how much would i have to pay for the tax if i were to go back to malaysia on 2014?
cause it wouldnt be worth it if i bought it for around RM300k and the car is selling for around RM300k+ in malaysia and i would have to pay a b**** load of tax when i go home sad.gif

For all Malaysia students overseas, this is the only information you need to know. Don't keep asking about same question again and again.

1. AP application
You need to submit by yourself at MITI. The documents are
a. Copy of IC
b. Copy of passport including visa
c. Copy of Malaysia driving license. If you don't have UK/Japan/NZ... license no problem. Again only need Malaysia driving license or international license or UK/Japan/NZ license
d. Copy of offer letter from university
e. Copy of scholarship if you have one.
f. Copy of study leave if you worked before
g. Copy of degree/masters/phd
h. Copy of report duty if you under study leave
i. Copy of car insurance
j. Copy of car purchase receipt
k. Copy of car registration certificate
l. Copy of flight ticket

2. You must own the car and insurance under your name minimum 9 months before your flight date to Malaysia. UK student dont even think to do backdate on V5. MITI know this trick.

3. Used hybrid car need to pay tax. Only new hybrid car can get exemption.

4. Tax base on docket price/new price. Not how much you bought it. Just think if you got the car free from friend, then it will be no tax?

regarding this, my dad will be buying the car for me and we're taking a small loan so i assume it'll be under his name but the insurance we applied for is sort of a joint insurance? as when we applied for the insurance, my dad included that the car will be driven by him and myself as well. will this work?

thanks alot! really answered all my questions and worries after reading all those new rules.
really appreciate it notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Personal AP... The Applicant has to be the owner of the car being brought in for at least 2 years (in Malaysia) before ownership change is allowed. If you are the applicant, you dad cannot be the registered owner in Malaysia for the first 2 years.

And you have to pay cash tax o Kastam fully before you can tax the car.

sorry, i dont quite understand. do you mind rephrasing. so so sorry.

the situation is that my dad is buying the car for me and the car is under my dad's name but the insurance is registered under both of our names.

and im currently a student in australia. i cant use the student AP?

hey guys, i've calculated that the estimation of tax i should pay is RM160k+- when i go back to malaysia in 2014 for a 2011 Mercedes Benz C250 Coupe.

im paying AUD70k which is around RM230k for the car right now
so the total cost would be close to RM400k?

kinda sucks if so, as the total would cost more than a brand new C250 in malaysia which is around Rm260k only.

can anyone confirm please! really appreciate it!
kinda in a rush now considering im getting a car within the next few weeks!
