I am not Malaysian, but is in Malaysia on a spouse visa. I would like to find a full English guide on how to and costs of importing personal vehicle to Malaysia. Can anyone help?

I have checked with Custom, and they quoted the import duty, excise duty and GST only accounts for 30% of my car purchase price, so I would still say cheaper than me to buy a car here. But I am unsure how much it would cost to get AP, or any other hidden charges upon importing, as the first post mention tax can be 150-300% of the car price, but now only about 30%. Hope someone can help me. Thx!!

If you qualify.... you could get the AP for free... you need to apply through the ministry of international trade and industry (MITI)

The max tax  is 193%....

the older your car, the lower the tax... no age limit for non-commercial AP

Thx, I will check with them.

My car is 3 years old, and 1400cc.
They quoted me the lowest of 30% import duty, 75% excise duty, 10% sales tax
But these percentages are based on CIF, and not the original purchase price, hence the tax incurred is only 30%.

For example, you mention the max tax is 193%, 193% of CIF, or purchase price?
This would cause a hell of a difference, as Kastam estimated my car CIF is only 35k.
My purchase price, if converted to Ringgit, will be 150k.

This is the only confusion. If it is only based on CIF, then I would still say worth shipping it, as it would cost lots more to buy the identical car here.
