Hi I'm new to the forum but discovered this thread and needed some help. Me and my parents currently live in New Zealand (10 years already) and planning to buy two cars soon. One for myself and one for them. So we currently have 3 APs but only using 2. Graduating end of this year so now is a good time to buy a car and have it for 9 months.

Here are the few questions I have, some may seem stupid but just want it very clear before I get two cars from Japan:

So if I'm not wrong, currently I have to own the car for 9 months and have it insured under my name for 9 months?

It is only worth importing cars that are 6 years old+?

When is the age of the car measured, at the day I submit my JK69 form or the day it arrives in Malaysia?

Rx8 with a CC of 1300 will have a road tax of only $70 per year as Malaysia only take CC into account?

Anything else to note?

Maybe I should try and sell my mother's AP too smile.gif.

BeastX - Ty for the fast reply smile.gif. The insurance thing I mentioned because the miti website specifically says

QUOTE
'Vehicle must be insured under the applicant's name for a period of not less than nine (9) months (from the date of car insured to the date of return to Malaysia).'

The requirements are abit confusing. So the people eligible for personal AP cannot just be a returning citizen of Malaysia but has to be either a government official, related to government official, or has worked full time for 1 year/studied overseas. So people who are retired and residing overseas who decides to return to Malaysia will not be eligible. Weird perks for government officials. Should be named 'Official's AP' instead tongue.gif.

QUOTE
Malaysian citizens that is eligible to apply:

Government officials working or studying overseas (at least obtained a diploma).

Malaysian citizens working full time in a company/posted overseas for at least 1 year or studying overseas (except from Singapore and Brunei). Accompanying spouses or children are not eligible to apply for Import License.

Husband, wife and children of Government officials and staff of home-based offices working at Malaysian Representatives office overseas

The minimal insurance then, with the very basic/minimal coverage, which was what I had used.

Work.... even part-time will qualify I guess..... after retiring age will do too, the certainly did not mention age limitation.

Yep thanks. He should qualify as he had been working part-time and full-time.

Ty for the help !

Must work full-time and have working visa

Regarding that, as long as he had worked full time for atleast a year, he is eliglble no? I mean, we have permanent residence which is a step above working visa.

Or else shall ask him go study diploma for a year rclxms.gif

So whats the price if i want to import a Ferrari F360 2004 used from UK ? Price about 50,000 pounds.
Is car around RM380k-400k only including tax and everything?
*
I know nothing but what I do know is consider your circumstances of not being able to see the car. Are you going to goto UK to inspect the car yourself? We're talking about a big sum of money here. Do you know where you're going to get an AP?

Abit off-topic, just my concern:

I looked through some of your posts and you're finding information for your brother in law, for something like this why are you taking liability for your brother in law's car. Anything goes wrong its on your head. I can see why you can help him if you had a clue, but you don't. If he has that much money to spend, he should use some money to get help from people who have imported cars before. Before asking about the car price, why don't you find out the process?

question here
I have a friend who is already in UK for 7 years as 'student'
and of course he's not intended to return to Msia

anyway, if i purchased the car via his name, will I able to bring
back the car after his ownership of more then 9 months?
Of course the owner's name on document will be him ...
Yes he do comeback Msia to renew his passport/visa etc but he wont return for good

I have not decided what car yet cause i dont know my idea can go thru or not

if its does, the car i am looking at is BMW Z4 3.2cc 2006 to 2007 which less then cost 20k poound

or Honda S2000 year 2000 cost less then 10k pound

Thanks for yr advise.

Regarding that, there is one thing I saw on the requirements that might hinder you. Dunno if there is any way to go around that. The people familiar with you can answer you in this thread biggrin.gif.

QUOTE
General conditions imposed:

The vehicle can only be registered in Malaysia under the applicant's name.

The ownership of the vehicle cannot be transferred to any third party within 2 years from the date of registration.

Import License is granted to applicant once in a lifetime.

buying from langkawi/labuan and bring it to pm will be cheaper than buying in pm?

Someone answered this before. In this case you get taxed back on what the market price is in West Malaysia.

Hi haven't posted here in awhile. Has the way depreciation work change? I saw a list provided by BeastX from a post in 2007.

6th year is still 30%? Would need a list since I haven't purchased the car that I intend to bring back.

I don't really know how to calculate what I need to pay in the end. Wouldn't want to buy a car then leave it here..

Need some help. I can barely read Malay so some of the information I have read is pretty confusing.

I am planning to return to Malaysia next year after graduation, am currently a student and have been here for 10 years which makes me eligible for AP.

If I was to purchase a 2006 BMW 323i at 27~28k NZD, what would be the total cost at the end of the day?

Example:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-384275935.htm

Also, do Japanese cars still have 25% off initial value?

Its really important for me as we will be bringing two cars back. One on my AP and one from my mother's AP as she has worked for over a year.

Thanks.

Ah I'm not too sure about that but I read that on the first page which is probably outdated.

QUOTE(BeastX @ Nov 18 2007, 08:43 AM)
165% x [above 3L car.. value (depreciate as stated in my previous post)]... 6 years old car and above has the highest tax cut

not sure of the Euro made cars... but Japanese made cars (or brand) have 25% off the initial value of car before depreciation calculation..

there is also appeal where you can get few k RM discount...

Even you get the car for free.. you still need to pay tax based on evaluation and currency of country of origin.

Usually the tax imposed (for 8 years old or more) on car is less than the market value of the car... A RM24.5k car ... would probably be at around RM40k total (tax and cost)

Ah.. okay thanks smile.gif.

Added on June 21, 2011, 10:23 pmSo I just did some calculations using:
http://www.floristhut.com/taxkastam4.htm

Example
5-6 years old BMW 520i 2.2l
Docket price: RM111,000 -15% pedagang: 94350
Depreciation: 70%
Discount individu: 20%
Discount rayuan: 10%

Total after deduction: 28305

shipping: RM1200
Insurance: RM424.58
Nilai Kastam (CIF): RM 29929.58
Duti import: 30%
Duti eksais: 95%

Sum: RM38,540.92

Is this accurate to what I should expect to pay? The car is worth around 28k NZD which is RM 68.8k

So 68.8k + 38.5k = RM107300 +/-few ks is what I should expect to pay?

Dude.. you're asking a question about year 2018. Things change. You're too young to bother about these matters to be honest. I don't mean to ridicule you but... wait until the time comes. Laws change.

Hey I'm back again. Currently in Malaysia for holiday and will get the carbonised form soon.

My question is, for BMW 323i is follow which docket price? Since Malaysia doesn't sell 323i. I'm assuming since it is 2500cc it follows 325i?

Anyone have a link to an updated calculator page? Recalled having one in this thread but I fear it is outdated.

2. Ada lesen malaysia. No malaysian license BEFORE going overseas-forget it. You do not have AP to bring back a car-regardless you spend 5 years overseas. MITI reasoning cause if you don't have malaysian license, how come you can drive car when you go to release the car. New addition to the 27th July ruling.
3. Ada lesen at the country you are studying at SEPANJANG memiliki kereta di negara tersebut. Meaning, if you are in Egypt, or Japan, you need to have a Egypt, Japan driving license in order to qualify to get an AP. This is the NEW addition to the 27th July pekeliling. A lot of people who were planning to buy a car stuck at this part even though they can get country of studying/working license, it will still be less than 9 months. New addition to the 27th July ruling.
4. Proof insurance kenderaan tersebut 9 bulan seblum balik. Previously, a lot of Malaysians tipu by getting the car one week before going back and the car agent here will backdate the date of the car purchase. Does not work anymore. This one I know first hand friend bring back merc told to backdate to qualify the 9 months, then car kna compound with Customs. Customs allowed him to buy back the car at RM 400k. He bought the merc for £3k only. Langsung malu nak cakap kat kawan-kawan lain keta tak keluar and senyap-senyap gitu jer. This one OLD rule, but due to abuse, customs/MITI now work with the JPJ with the country where the car comes from. They will investigate on their side. They also know more about the car then you, so if wrecked car or half-cut car they will know. BTW, if your car is half-cut or chasis number does not match, they will rampas your car.

WAIT WHAT?!

I've resided in New Zealand for 10 years and I am 21 now. So of course I wouldn't have a Malaysian driving license. However it takes only a day to convert my NZ license to Malaysian license. I am a PR in New Zealand.

How would it work for me then?

EDIT:

What would the tax be for this car? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-438507031.htm
