The car by Personal AP only need 2 years for the car to be under the ownership of the AP applicant before transfer is allowed. As long as you get your documents in order I see not much changes (as in the real person bringing-in the car that he owns, not selling the AP to others). Without runner (a person can do it without any additional charges, it'll probably takes you 1 or 2 days of your time).
Added on May 28, 2010, 8:37 am2 years instead of 3 (as stated above). And a big difference: Commercial AP is limited to cars up to 5 years old. Personal AP... unlimited age.
Tax remains the same.
That's why the gov. may want to cut of these middle man (abusing personal APs) from earning big bucks.
Added on May 28, 2010, 8:55 amBest it to go to the MITI and request a written check list.... fulfil all the requirements... it should be straight sailing... 2 weeks for AP application to be approved. With the AP in hand, everything else should be easy through customs (you'llĀ only need to pay the tax). By right you should have your AP ready before your car reach Malaysian shores (or even before you ship the car). You may need a friend/family (or a good hired runner) on Malaysian side to go to MITI with your documents first (or yourself, fly back for holiday).
It's all in the clear.... no need for bigshot ("rasuah"/power abuse/throwing weight around) cable. If there are any places where you're stuck without any reasonable excuses, report to the MACC.
