let me start by saying that this is one cool thread!!!!    full of info and good discussion + advice 

currently i am staying in japan and planing to return home somewhere in july
i want to bring back my car which is a honda s2000.....(the best car i've ever drive   )
the car is 10years old this year and i got it for about RM35k 3years ago.

i really need to estimate on how much i need to pay the gov. in order to bring my car into the country.
any idea anyone.... 

as i read throughout this thread, it seem like it would difficult to deal with import process alone...
so i am looking for a forwarder to help me through the process of importing the car and putting it in the road.
any suggestion or recommendation anyone.....

I would say wait for the announcement this week by deputy head of MITI.

AP function to control/limit car import (or abused to enrich certain parties).

update 28-10-2009....

10k per open AP in 2010... importation may not be allowed after 2015... tax/duti structure remains the same??...personal AP may still be free...

My S2000 is modified, lots of time invloved in assembling the turbo parts, tuning by famous US tuner, Mase with power up to 500 bhp, corner weight balancing with Ohlins suspension achieving 50:50 balancing by F1 Red bull technician based in UK, Thats why the hassle to bring it back as I am not likely to own another car like this. I am happy to give u a ride as soon as the car docked in port klang

last time i knew was MUST have full licence..but think had bumped into a "P holders can apply", not sure where n when..being so forgetful lately..

ask someone go to MITI and ask for confirmation, otherwise seek for document 11 in the miti website..

If you look at the first page of that pdf, it says clearly that it is for "ap terbuka" or Open AP which is different from these students AP. I am currently in the process of importing 2 cars under the Human Resources Ministry/MoF so I will be asking around about the student ap/tax calculation while I am there.
