Aiyar.. anyway , if i bought a car or bike , as a student in university in u.s ,
Could i bring back my bike or car neither 1 la ~ without those taxes that could make my vehicles back to the price in malaysia?
Example : Nissan 370z, 40k USD converted to RM120k . RM120K + Shipping cost + those small quantity tax = around RM150k or RM200k . If compared to Peninsular Malaysia to get 1 nissan 370z , already RM390k without upgrades or luxury parts.

So, is it possible to get RM200k price? or will become around RM390K ++ -- ?

As i heard my brother friends says that 1 person could bring his/her own vehicles from oversea for 1 time in his/her life... it is true ? The requirement is the vehicle need older than 3 year.

Your replies is totally appreciated biggrin.gif
Your brother is correct except that the car you bring in requires to exceed 9 months old only (not necessary 3 years)... minimum requirement of ownership to qualify for an AP.

I guess you don't get this:
Older the car, Lower the tax..... From the tax structure now, a car 6 year or older has a much lower tax. RM200k price, sure get a 2008 370z, in 2018.... you should pay less than 100k for everthing (car + shipping + tax) assuming the current gov. policy still stands.

Unless you're gov official or returning professional, all cars will still be taxed @ the same rate.

Helo sifus,

My wife currently has a 2010 Lotus Elise in the UK. She wants to bring it back. I've read all the requirements but i stumble upon 1 BIG problem.

She completed her masters there on a Student Visa. Then she continued to work on a Working Permit. Lately she reverted back to Student Visa for studies. But now she want to give up her studies and come back ASAP.

So which VISA can she use for Personal AP? Please help icon_question.gif

So long as she's out of the country @ more than 1 year and own the vehicle for more than 9 months.
Only the letter of proof from the work place or place of study is required. Visa is not required/sufficient proof.

as you state it's Personal AP

Hey guys, im actually planning to buy a new 2011 merz C class coupe here in aus. and it costs probably around 75k+ AUD which amounts to almost RM300k.

I was wondering how much would i have to pay for the tax if i were to go back to malaysia on 2014?
cause it wouldnt be worth it if i bought it for around RM300k and the car is selling for around RM300k+ in malaysia and i would have to pay a b**** load of tax when i go home sad.gif

Then any Visa/work Permit will be sufficient... just to show that you're really out of the country.

1 year old car .... guaranteed to be taxed at around 100% of the value of the car. Like buying 2 Elise...

b.t.w. below 1.8L engine (1796cm3) ... qualify for the lowest tax bracket

Ownership transfer documentation.... any(most) legal car in a country should require some form of insurance.

hi..can i ask something here...
i have emailed the custom in order to check on the tax amount through student AP. however, they need me to give them details like engine chassis number. The problem is, i have not purchased the vehicle. i need to know the tax amount first in order to decide to buy or not. Thus i cannot provide them with the chasis number. Possible if i simply give one? can they detect?

Please help. Thanks notworthy.gif

Usually car model and engine model/capacity will suffice... Chassis and Engine No. will only be required for AP application (reference that PUSPAKOM will refer to when checking/registering)

Not releally I was taxed at less that 1/3 of the value that I bought my car..... It's very subjective to the car/price/year..

ur tax should be around that (RM40k).
but like mr Beast said it can be lesser than price bought depend on year manufactured, forex n other factors..
u can use the purchase price as benchmark to budget the total cost of the tax..
my advice do buy a car at least 5yr old, the older the car, it will be cheaper (tax wise)..

bought my rx8 around 800k yen (at that time yen is rm3.64), and got tax around rm28,080 (yen at the time of declare is around rm3.79)..
