Hi everybody,

I read this on custom's website, below is the link,
http://www.customs.gov.my/ms/cp/Pages/cp_tivs.aspx

QUOTE

Does it mean there will be no more Pengarah Kastam Negeri and Putrajaya 35% discount?

Since I am planning to buy a car and bring it to Malaysia in 2017, I have done quite an intensive read on the internet regarding this tax.
I found a link about 'Perintah Kastam (Nilai-nilai kenderaan motor pasang siap yang diimport)(Terpakai) 2011. Below is the link,

http://www.federalgazette.agc.gov.my/outpu...20-complete.pdf

Is this 'Perintah Kastam' applicable for those who want to import car using student's AP?
I have made calculation based on the given CIF (Value of Cost, Insurance and Freight) for a BMW 320d Year 2012 (by 2017 it will be above 60 month old)

CIF for BMW 320d (from above PDF link) = ----------------------------------------------------- RM 42463
Deduction 15% (Diskaun Pedagang from floristhut website) = 0.15 x RM 42 463 = ------- RM 6369.45
New CIF after discount?? (not sure)= RM 42463 - RM 6369.45 = -----------------------------RM 36093.55
Import duty = (New CIF ) x 30% = RM 36093.55 x 0.3 = -------------------------------------RM 10828.07
Excise duty = (Import duty + New CIF) x 80% = ------------------------------------------------RM 37537.29
Sales Tax/GST = (Excise duty + Import duty + New CIF) x 6% = ------------------------------RM 5067.53
Total Tax = (Excise + Import + Sales/GST) =------------------------------------------------------RM 53432.89

If Rayuan from Pengarah is included,35% discount = (Total tax x 0.65) = --------------------RM 34731.38 <--- Final Tax??

Do you guys think that is how they calculate the tax?

Nah. Muscle cars are slow and not sporty. Since only got 1 chance, I want it to be special enough. Currently looking at the new Cadillac CT6/CTS 2.0T luxury for my dad or Corvette 3LT (speed bumps in Malaysia doh.gif) for myself if i got the money. Other than that, Jags/Range Rovers, etc. is easier to walk into showrooms in msia and buy one.

Can recommend anything? I don't mind Teslas but charging that thing is a pain in the a$$ unless with the supercharger.

Plus we can still drive LHD cars in Malaysia right?
*
Hahaha I just realized you replied me after half a year! sweat.gif

It's true that 'muscle' cars are slow and not sporty. The new 2015 Mustangs are actually pretty impressive and sporty, but I don't want it since they have RHD models available for that generation. Why drive something that other Malaysians can get? (Even if they're paying 300-600k for a FORD.. suckers!). I'll be swapping out my current Mustang for a Volkswagen GTI soon, I need a fast, sporty car with great handling that's good on gas, practical as a daily driver, a lot of options to install bike rack and most importantly 6-speed manual.. haha. Of course this one isn't the one I'm bringing back la. I drive about 500 miles every weekend commuting between my uni and my parents house.

A Corvette is also another viable option. It's an easily discernible American icon but at the same time it is somewhat up there with the 'supercars' with its styling and performance. At the moment, the new Corvettes are just too expensive for me and my dad, so we might look at the C5/C6 gen Corvettes instead. Corvette should be fine for speed bumps and all that, I mean, everyday in Malaysia you see people driving supercars haha.. or lowered European/Japanese cars. They're fine. By all accounts, those Lamborghinis and such are much more expensive than a Corvette.. haha. I'd go with a Corvette if I were you. There are a few C6 Corvettes in Malaysia and as far as I know, the only new Corvette over there is owned by TMJ. The Cadillac CTS-V is a great car as well, luxurious, practical and FAST. And TMJ also owns one because I saw it at Pavillion valet parking.

Just so you know, there's at least one Tesla in Malaysia.. he's been spotted driving one around, and there are reports of other Teslas owned by people who don't drive it around at all. tongue.gif

And yes, we can drive LHD cars in Malaysia. There's a lot of them around!

Guys, i have been reading a few posts from the start to a few dozens more. I was known that motorcycles apply the same way as to cars in the term of the procedures. But I need to know about the duty import charges on motorcycles for those with engines >999cc and <999c. Also if am not mistaken, I have read somewhere in the thread saying that jap made have 25% off initial, does that mean minus 25% off of the import duty??

there is one way to bring cars from neighbouring countries especially Singapore.

1. Buy a scrap SG car for cheap
2. Get it confiscated by Customs
3. Wait for it to be auctioned.
4. Bid for it.
5. Pay tax and everything.
6. Tada.

Haha.

In a serious note, NO WAY TO IMPORT CARS FROM OUR NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES.

Not many people bring back car from australia from memory. I remember one of my friend who have planned to transport his crv but cancel at the very last minute because not much different between the car price (5 years) with second hand in malaysia after 30% tax. Perhaps the reliability is the different but the resale value for second hand car is high in aus

Yes, you got that right. Cars assembled in Thailand, when you buy it brand new, you should get an AP document (a copy of it) along with your car. Still from what I know, Malaysia also assembles Honda cars (city) so no AP is needed for those cars.

Who's AP you gonna use? That person needs to

1. own the car there for at least 9 months (document in the country of origin (UK) under his/her name)
2. has FULL drivers license in the country of origin (UK)
3. has insurance for the car for AT LEAST 9 months prior to the shipment of the car

I think that is it. All malaysians studying / working for 1 year or more are entitled to bring a car in once in a life time (one AP per person).

Then you need to go to MITI, bring all the documents, and then apply for AP. Once that is settled, need to go to Customs to pay tax and release the car from storage at the port of entry (usually Port Klang).

Importing A Vehicle To Malaysia

Unfortunately this is going to be a hassle. It is perhaps the best idea to just put your car into storage or in the care of a friend while you are in Malaysia. However if you really have to bring your car the following will be helpful.

The imposition of very high import duties make owning a non Malaysian made car somewhat expensive. Import duties run to as high as 300%. Consequently the vast majority of cars in Malaysia are locally produced ones. Cost of maintenance and parts for foreign cars are also factors to be considered. Needless to say if your car is rare or indeed not available in Malaysia these factors become paramount.

Shipping charges, documentation and bureaucracy may also cause you problems, although hiring a shipping agent will alleviate most of the stress involved, charges will of course be imposed.

To import your car, you must apply for an Approval Permit (AP) from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

In order to apply for this permit your car must be registered under your name for at least 3 years. The following documentation must then be presented and processed:

1. A letter of application addressed to the Ministry Of International Trade and Industry (MITI) for the importing of a car from your home country to Malaysia for personal use.
2. A JK69 form must be purchased MITI and duly completed.
3. Documentation indicating proof of ownership. Typically this will be a purchase receipt or transfer of ownership/letter from the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.
4. The original and photocopied registration.
5. The cars original insurance documents and/or a letter from the insurance company.
6. Your work permit and letter of contract from your employer in Malaysia.
7. A photocopy of your passport.

All these documents must be presented to the officer in charge at the MITI offices, who will also conduct a short interview. Processing of your application typically takes seven working days, if all goes well you will be issued an Approval Permit allowing you to import your car. The permit is valid for only 3 months, if you do not import your car by then, you will have to go through the entire process all over again.

Upon the arrival of your car, you are required to collect it yourself from the port and then you will need to apply for a permit from the Malaysian Road Transport Department or "Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan", this entails more registration paperwork which of course will include your proof of ownership and registration documents, a car inspection and the payment of the import duties.

Purchase price of the vehicle can be taken into account in the calculation of the Customs Value and this is only an estimation of the calculations of Customs Duties. However, Royal Malaysian Customs has docket price of the particular vehicle to determine the calculation of the exact Customs Value. The calculation of Customs Duties also depends on the original registration date (birth date), engine capacity, date of import and model of the vehicle.
