Forget about X-Trail, it's plagued with gearbox problem. original reverse screen is tiny(like 4-5 inches only). 2.0L version underpower, 2.5L version roadtax expensive. RM800/year. interior starting to show its age.

Mitsubishi Outlander - 2.0L version a bit underpower, no electronic handbrake, no sunroof. 2.4L roadtax RM800+/year. comfortable for highway drive. interior starting to show its age.

Volkswagon Tiguan - 1.4L turbo underpower, 2.0L turbo decent power and cheaper roadtax. expensive parts and plastic/rubber parts less durable(like lots of European cars) Google known problem for Tiguan, list is quite long.

all resale value low.

If maintainence is a concern, then it automatically rules out the Tiguan

If i got money i will get Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe with the 2.2 Turbo Diesel engine. One of the most reliable SUV ride in market. A lot of people dont believe you can ask those which fix both Toyota & Kia/Hyundai. The turbo diesel engine if taken care really last long and not much issue.

If go official Toyota (or any big brands) service center, confirm lan they will quote only new gearbox. Official SC wont be helping owner to fix or repair gearbox at lower cost as they want less issue, easy money & short time frame. If no more warranty plenty of options outside.

Tiguan will drive best, but also most expensive to maintain. It should be in the same range as CRV and CX-5, give and take a year, where both are better choice than Tiguan. I would take a CX-5 with a 70k+ budget.

The rest of the choices in the poll are junks, especially the last generation ones that you are looking at.

Many people will advise the good old Toyota. Yes very reliable, plenty of spare part. But with your budget every journey is a smell of old leather, looking at faded black plastic, ugly dashboad, old tech, small screen, and no AEB. I don't understand why anyone would want to 'enjoy' ride a like that.

Go for the CX-5, you will be happier every time you sit inside the car.
