This is one of the most accurate description of a Home Theatre. Actually I feel its 1 level above Gold class since you get all the benefits of Gold class plus the freedom to do whatever else that tickles ur fancy.... like substitute popcorn for char kuay teow with extra chilli and kerang, cendol and ABC for coke/sprite. Pause to go to the toilet, replay scenes in case u missed ahem ... brows.gif"important dialogue":hehe:. That is if u don't mind waiting for movies to get on to DVDs.

I really enjoy the time spent with the family while indulging in one of mankind's great escapes. I have come to appreciate that this is another activity that a father and son can do together without interruption from mothers, sisters or grand parents... just father and son. I watch the Lion King or Finding Nemo with my son every weekend... priceless!

Thanks all for ur compliments. Don't just think about building an AV Room/Home Theatre, do it.

The images from the projector and screen looks great mate! thumbup.gif Make me want to invest in a projector even more!!! Summore poison myself by hooking up my office's infocus portable pj to watch movie from my notebook doh.gif . brows.gif Although the image quality is so so, still nothing beat the image scale of the pj. sweat.gif

Maybe will save up more to get myself those Optoma 720p projectors.

I currently own a Da-lite 72' screen width (84" diagonal for 16:9) motorized screen with HCMW (High Contrast Matte White) material. Purchase around RM 4k and I wish to let go at around RM 2k. Reason is I'm moving to new house and going for fixed screen format (most likely will get the Carada screen at 118').

Hi,

I am still trying to figure out what my screen size should be. Basically the seating will be around 8 feet from the screen. Could someone recommend me a screen size and projector distance itself from the screen?

Thanx

8ft from the screen is quite near. I dunno whether you have any space behind your seating area. What is the size of the room? If have, you could possibly ceiling mount it at the back.

I have attached a useful link for you to calculate :

http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection...culator-pro.cfm

The motorised screen in HDTV format (16:9) from Draper would easily cost above RM1,550 for a 73" HCG. A 92" would be about RM1,800

Both Da-Lite and Carada are good screens. Hence, it comes with a slightly premium price tag.

Based on the ProjectorCentrl.com estimation, for a seating distance of 8 feet, you maximum recommended screen size would be around 80 ~ 90 inches.

so, there shouldnt be a problem for me to put the screen at the area considering the seating distance?

jasonlky,

How far is your seating area from the screen? and how far is your projector mounted from the screen?

You need a short throw pj which is able to give big screen size at short length.

Yeah. Quoted around USD 800 for 118" screen. If include shipping + tax should be more than RM 4k.

My seating distance is about 1.3 times screen width. Screen is 110" diagonal, 16:9.

recommended seating distance for 720p projector is 1.5x of your screen width. For 1080p you can go for 1x to 1.2x of your screen width. If you are looking for DLP 720p projector, I would advice better get the DarkChip3 version. The black level is quite low with higher contrast compare to darkchip2. I think some company is clearing the stock, you can try out Optoma HD73 or even the out of production HD79 if available (2 years ago retail for more than USD 5000)
