*The Geely Xingyuan is taking on China's best-selling electric vehicles like the BYD Seagull and Tesla Model Y.

*In just 14 months after launch, Geely has sold over half a million units of the Xingyuan.

*It could potentially end the year as China's top-selling EV and one of the world's best-selling electric models.

Yes, Geely Xingyuan is selling like hot cakes due to competitive pricing and smart package. Sadly i still think the price:spec given in Malaysia still on the high side for now, hopefully once officially CKD and bring down the price & offer better spec.

Completely agree. The premium version should be priced at RM59k max instead of RM69k. The prime should be RM50k. But I do not see prices coming down anytime soon coz demand is very high, based on how Pronet handled the deliveries of eMas 7, they will have a hard time delivering the cars within a reasonable time-frame.

The model year 2026 Xingyuan starts at about $9,700 (68,800 yuan), stretching up to $12,340 for the range-topping version, putting it in a similar price range as its main rival, the Seagull. For that money, which is not a lot even by Chinese standards, it offers cutting-edge software, interior space that outclasses rivals and high-quality materials inside, as several Chinese reviewers have noted.

It is based on Geely’s dedicated EV platform for affordable models, called the Sustainable Experience Architecture-Entry (SEA-E). Buyers get two CATL lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery options: 30-kilowatt-hours and 40 kWh.

68,800 already included china profit, tax etc. for 30kwh how to become 56k myr

Shipping a car from Zhejiang (typically via Ningbo or Shanghai port) to Malaysia generally costs between USD 1,600 and USD 2,500+ for container shipping, depending on the car size, container type, and specific destination port. Sedan cars are often estimated around USD 1,685 in-container, while SUVs can be higher.

Key Shipping Details:
Method: Full Container Load (FCL) in a 20ft or 40ft container is standard for cars.
Port-to-Port Cost: Estimated at USD 1,800–$2,500 for container shipping, with rates fluctuating based on season.
Transit Time: 8–15 days by sea.
Key Ports: Ningbo (Zhejiang) to Port Klang (Selangor) or Penang (Penang).

Factors Affecting the Price:
Vehicle Size: Larger SUVs or trucks may cost more to load and secure.

Container Type: A 20ft container (exclusive) vs. 40ft (shared or exclusive) affects the cost.

Customs Duties: Malaysia imposes high import duties on vehicles, sometimes ranging from 5-30% depending on the vehicle's HS code classification.

Additional Fees: Port handling, documentation, and inland trucking in China and Malaysia are usually extra.

+And the escalating oil price is not helping

yes you got a point....

RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off) shipping from Zhejiang (typically Ningbo port) to Malaysia typically costs between $50 and $150 per cubic meter (CBM) for passenger vehicles, though overall costs depend on vehicle size and specific
destination port (e.g., Port Klang). Total costs can range from $800 to $1,500+ for standard sedans, excluding import duties.

.. Xingyuan is about 12 cubic meter in size, hence $600 to $1800 which is about RM2,400 to RM7,200 per car...that exclude transporters cost from factory to port (China) and then Malaysia port to Warehouse.

Anyway the killer parts is the below:

For a fully imported (CBU) Proton e.MAS 5 in 2026, the tax structure generally includes a 30% import duty, 10% excise duty, and 10% sales tax. However, if imported from China, it may benefit from a preferential 5% import duty, resulting in a 5% + 10% + 10% structure. Tax holidays for CBU EVs ended on Dec 31, 2025.
Import Duty: Usually 30%, but can be reduced to 5% under ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) agreements for EVs from China.
Excise Duty: 10% for CBU EVs.
Sales Tax (SST): 10%.
Exemptions: The tax exemption for CBU EVs expired on December 31, 2025. Only locally assembled (CKD) EVs enjoy tax exemptions until 2027.
Therefore, a CBU e.MAS 5 imported in 2026 will face taxes, whereas a locally assembled version would not.

FYI, the initial batches of the Proton e.MAS 5 are fully imported (CBU - Completely Built-Up) from China. It is essentially a rebadged Geely EX2/Geome Xingyuan. While initially imported, the model is expected to be locally assembled (CKD) at Proton's Tanjung Malim plant later.

...New energy leader

Proton’s electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) arm, Proton e.MAS, reached a new historic high in April with 3,420 units sold.

The Proton e.MAS 5 remains the nation’s most popular EV, contributing 1,771 units in April for a YTD total of 8,473.

Its sibling, the Proton e.MAS 7, recorded its third consecutive month of growth, while the e.MAS 7 PHEV variant retained its title as the best-selling PHEV in the country with 1,013 units delivered last month.

Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, attributed the success to a robust dealer network and periodic variant updates.

“We are confident of ending the year as Malaysia’s favourite EV and PHEV brand,” he added...
