Illegal racing and dangerous driving are violations of the Malaysian Road Transport Act 1987. The penalties for those convicted are severe:
First conviction: Imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000.
Subsequent convictions: Imprisonment for up to ten years and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM20,000.
Driving Licence Disqualification: Convicted individuals also face disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a minimum of two years, extended to ten years for subsequent offences.
