OT Calculation Changed – Now Exceeding 72 Hours Due to Public Holidays?

I would like to discuss a recent change in our company overtime (OT) calculation rules.

Previously, our OT was calculated from the 15th of the month to the 16th of the next month.

There was also a maximum OT cap of 72 hours per month.

For the OT calculation period 15 December 2025 to 15 January 2026, overtime is calculated over a period that includes:

2 public holidays (christmas and new year)

5 working weeks

1 hour of OT per day (someone will stay )

Because of this, the total OT for December 2025 – January 2026 exceeds the 72-hour limit.

Key concern:

Last time, public holiday OT was NOT included in the 72-hour OT maximum cap.

Now, public holiday OT IS included, causing employees to exceed the 72-hour limit.

/----/----------------------/
/ Given / Details /
/----/----------------------/
OT days per month / 5 days
OT hours per day / 6am – 4pm = 10 hours
OT period / 5 weeks in the month
/----/----------------------/
/ Calculation / Result /
/----/----------------------/
OT hours per week / 5 × 10 = 50 hours
Total OT hours for month / 5 days × 10 hours = 50 hours

1. Why was the OT rule changed?
Company no money?

2. Why is public holiday OT now counted into the 72-hour maximum?

Great reset. You'll own nothing and you'll be happy.

When the government tries to fix this, it will end up meaning all the M40, T10 etc all slowly becoming B90. Already happens and continue to happen.

1) Compliance. All OT, holiday or not, is accumulative the same. They shouldnt split it in the first place.

2) Company can set the limit as long it is within the statutory limit. 72 is good initialtive for work-life balance.

Can you argue with your management about it? If you cannot, better just accept or you can report & fight in tribunal. But, every fight will have the consequences. Or, just resigned. That's all.
