Because I kind of needed it and this was a bit unplanned so yes, my bad.
Any idea if grab is a viable alternative? Just have to look up the meals and order because it's substantially cheaper than going for those packages. Besides, can always get those pre-packaged mix of herbs from a reputable place and it will still be cheaper.

Thoughts? Would really appreciate it.

If normal food outside/grab is an apple to apple comparison alternative, there will not be confinement package, as they wont be able to survive.

Also, since u know the word 'confinement', how can u compare to normal dishes... If u feel 'confinement' is a gimmick, then go ahead n order grab.

Confinement dishses are prone to gingers, purpose of getting rid of winds in body, and also to cater ur body needs (if the chef got experience). Normal food/grab are full with oil, seasoning, msg, whatever u can spell out, not suitable for a post maternity mother.

Yes, you can get those pre-pack package herbs, but ur oppurtunity cost is ur time & kitchen stuff to cook/boil it.

If u really wan save budget, ask ur family members to buy ingredients and the prepacked herbal soup, then find/employ someone to cook for u, u just pay the cooking service, there are such service in the market.

Get your mum or mum in law cook. Or get your relatives go cook but must pay them. Much healthier and better.

I would not post this here if my MIL is available, but she got into an accident recently and can't really work/cook for too long as well, hence I opened this post. I'm just brainstorming for ideas, otherwise I think I can manage the cooking just fine tbh, just get the prepacked herbs and get hubby to buy groceries. (Precut chicken etc)

Just keeping my options open before I pull the trigger on those confinement meals from centres.

Can see below reply. Worse come to worse I don't think I should have an issue with cooking. Yes I'm aware that there are confinement ladies who will come and cook at home but that is also more $$$ at the end of the day. Just exploring all possibilities.

my wife used to engage a shop that can prepare confinement meal then send it to the house. It will come with the tiffin container, and a thermos with soup. Eat liao clean it, then pack it back into the bag they deliver. Next day they come with another set, will bring back those containers from the day before.

Does the shop deal with exclusively confinement meals, or they do other meals as well? As far as I know, certain foods are good and bad and if I know what I'm taking then it should be no issue, yes?

Yeah they will pack in tiffin everyday, have heard of it before. But not sure if shops these days still do it.

You can try Google around to ask your nearby neighborhood if there are ppl doing this kind of confinement food. In my taman last time, there is a old lady doing this kind of cooking to earn some pocket money.

Can start asking your friends too if they know any of those.

This was what I was thinking, as long as no oil, little spice, no extra msg, flavouring etc, then should be okay already. I'm not looking for traditional to the max, just something to help with recovery over the next few weeks and nothing more. Basically super healthy cooking.

There is no “confinement” food per se now la.
Most don’t even eat those pork legs vinegar, yellow wine chicken etc. many nowadays scared fat. If you see confinement center, their food plan also same like normal food. Just the soup different.

Like you said. Just grab those soup herbal and cook according to days. Food wise, all vege has to add ginger, so buy a lot of ginger. If you like pork legs vinegar, just start searching around nearby which zhap fan got frequently do. Just dabao from there. If you like yellow wine chicken, just try to source for the wine and throw in chicken and ginger yourself. Last time mostly will book a dozen bottle. Nowadays just buy a bottle or two enough.

But if you plan to breast feed, avoid cabbage. Same with sayur kuchai. There is a belief. Last time people don’t eat fish now they do. Last time people don’t eat vege, now they do. Again, just make sure again. add ginger.

If I not mistaken, need to use sesame oil instead of normal oil. Maybe not avoid totally. But certainly better to add or replace I think.

That's why my first instinct was to check out grab, because the food really does appear to be the same. I'm going with the understanding what helps instead of taking the gospel word of aunties/uncles, so as long as I stick to protein based, nutrient rich meals then I should be good. Trotters have a lot of collagen, and a good substitute is chicken feet. Steam the chicken with yellow wine and ginger, should not be too difficult. Sesame oil has these properties of nourishing which is true, but I think it's more to stimulate the appetite (have to eat for breastfeeding). Stick with something simple and it should be no problem.

Thanks a lot for the tips 🙏

No problem. You understand what I said about the soup right? The soup you have to drink everyday. Usually there is package from Chinese Medicine shop. You have to ask around. They will label the package to according to days 1 day 2 day 3 till day 28. The price varied from less than 1k to few k maybe. Just see which you are comfortable with.

For the pantang, you can ask AI la. Just ask for Chinese pantang. Should be easy and then depends if you want to follow by logic or instinct.

Fruits wise, of course avoid those “cold” ones. My wife just had apples everyday since our habit memang eat fruits everyday. Avoid watermelon, etc.

By the way, are you going for natural or c-section? I think c-sec more pantang. Maybe avoid chicken for the first 2 weeks or so.

TS, I hope you find a suitable solution, I can imagine how troublesome it can be.

Natural is the plan, but of course if anything then have to czer.
So far the plan is to get a package for those soups for 28 days, and as for the meals adjust accordingly as they go. Of course have to discuss this with MIL as well because she's the expert ha.

TS, as u r in Puchong Kinrara side, might consider Tian Tian (someone above shared the FB link), family of mine survey and this is the cheapest, i think is around RM100 for lunch, mini tea time & dinner, with 2 soups.

Her review from what i rmb - Taste wise cant expect much as its confinement dishes, also, the taste might repeat despite using different ingredients.
The tiffin/container might be a bit old, long usage (thats y cheap also)

Good thing is, finish makan put back into the insulated bag only, no need to wash, if u feel sorry, at least rinse it will do.
THis u save ur time, and also avoid touching 'raw' water
