Depends on which part you are buying

Lazada is more expensive but the reviews more genuine

Shopee you gotta check properly, preferably those reviews with photos of the part and within 3 months from current date

If you looking for consumables i.e. engine oil brake oil ATF oil - buy from preferred with reviews as above, or mall

I wish those Honda/Toyota/BMW/Mercedes/etc brand open official store so those who want to buy part without worrying, waited for so many year also nothing happened .

Have i? Yes.

What did i buy? Oil, brake fluid, ATF oil, coolant, oil filter, AC filter, air filter, door panel, spark plug, suspension, brake pads, engine mouting, radiator, compressor, wiper motor, car battery, car tire (nearby and comeover for pickup/installation)

Where did i buy? official stores and/or stores with high response rating and a return policy. If the part is not what i wanted, i return it back.

What do i need look out for? OEM brands is sufficient, so long as the part numbers are the same. Dont simply buy cheap2, there are, just gotta make sure its genuine product, hence from official store that gives out warranty.

What about installation? some i DIY, some i send to my mechanic.

Price is cheaper? somewhat, yes. but that vs convenient and timing, it depends. For example, you know you want to do service, so you buy the parts now for next week service, no prob. But (knock on wood) say your car breakdown and you know what you need, for example battery. it is cheaper to order online and wait for 2-3 days, OR pay a little more to get it now. it realllly depends on situation.

I get my oil from leftover oil from scrap oil bottle that people throw out, so yeah is free
Oil filter i rummage for free from closed down workshop
Disc rotor i found from besi buruk, that fella that come and sell scrap drive waja also, old one still good shape, throw away cause changed to evo 3 twin pot.

the honest workshop still survives, my regular workshop has been expanding since I met him in 2008. Only the scamming workshop opens and closes, especially those tyre workshops that are known to charge exorbitant prices and add unnecessary parts.

less confident to use their engine oil on cars, compared to those with Shopee Mall. I dont know, will only stick to Shopee Mall Engine oil atm

I bought most of my car parts, engine oil, filter, atf so on online.
Overall, I save around 30-40% after factor in labour charge to workshop for installation. Oil so on buy Mizu where there is less likely to get fake oil.

Pro tip, choose workshop run by the owner himself. If you have to choose workshop where the workers do all the job, choose workshop that is very open with you bringing one part. For example, workshop that display harga bawa Barang sendiri.

If there is issue, just accept the fate and buy new part and pay labour again. No need argue, no need play with workshop mental game telling you your part no good so on. If they say barang not ori when you thought it is ori, just put up your poker face say yeah, I know. Cheap price.

From the recent Facebook event, even workshop are cheated by spare parts company.
I believe most of the shopee item we see online are all fake.

Bought engine oil a few times, some are repacked oil and once I bought a bucket. Bucket one the seller is a distributor with actual physical business.

Then I regularly buy oil filters from shopee. This one seller dime a dozen, so I just pick which one on sale saja.

Last I bought a used brake pump from a chop shop on shopee

for car spare parts is better to buy from Official seller.

i buy my engine oil from castrol and oil filter from Bosch.

even battery i get it from shopee. same day delivery and installation. quite good service

i bought my own parts is to get quality parts.
if depends on the workshop sometime, they just get crap oem part that last only a year, rubber keras or bad workmanship on those components.
few time myself kena, lower arm less than a year kaput, drive shaft leaking grease very quickly, absober bocor less than a year and the worst of all, fan belt putus in like less than 2 years (very old item that bengkel sold)

if you buy yourself and the item breaks quickly, its yourself to be blame.

There are few categories of car parts, factory original, OEM, parts from kereta potong and of course fake low quality parts marketed as genuine factory parts. Most of the time for average Malaysian, wallet dictates which category but the last category is the worst one, the cheapest is the one you paid the most.

for comparison, bought Tesco, Aeon, Lotus Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic 5w40, cost rm89-109 (depending on offer, usually rm99), send workshop add rm15 for oil filter, maybe rm25-40 for upah.

if change and bought the same oil at workshop, standby rm249 for the Engine oil alone

If helix ultra, min rm300 right? I see petrol station selling >300

ah forgot, yup, heading rm300, sometimes rm289 at workshop after "sales"

how to buy mounts and other major parts ask Foreman to install? , if defective or installation skill issues, they sure deny..very troublesome

You should send it to your regular workshop. Then, for the installation after buying the engine mount online. Find the local OEM brand. It should last at least 3 years. if no, then ask the workshop to find and replace it for u for a reasonable price for the engine mounting.

parts got many options....
potong kereta, refurbish cheap, refrubish original, cheap OEM, good OEM, original factory part, performance part

Major parts, best go back to SC, at least got warranty. If buy online, prepare to forfeit the warranty as for sure the mechanics will push all the blames to the parts you buy.

Another option is to have a close friend as your mechanic.

Kena con with spark plug with good review but received 2 ori 2 fake.

I also buy my toyota car parts from Vanli.

This one also slap their own supplier face wei.
Ori doesnt work but fake ori work like a charm.
German company really sent their technician to jaga their image wei.

Dude, mana u buy ur fron disc brake shoe, and the steering rack ? I saw ori steering rack rm4.6k, while rm1.6k from shopee and mechanic, their say new but i suspect is recon. Any suggestion?

i bought carburator b4, online direct from caina, caina copy, shipping packaging not so great, some pipe got abit bend, but i manage to make it straight, naiisee. Precision wise not great, makan minyak

Yes bought timing belt before.. slight 1cm differences.. cannot fit in the pulley. Had to reinstall old timing belt and drove all the way to the seller address to refund.

Relax , this one all AXIA. Based on research these are ori if it's advertised as ori. Even if it's not ori I don't have any weird sound like vios topkek CB Toyolta

This!! malaysians love cheap stuff over everything and only know how to complain when issue arises.

Even OEM also got few levels of quality - poor, medium and good

Bavarian Auto already got shopee lar...conlanfirm ori maa...oem oso got there

Parts that I dont care is imitation, like proton power window (genuine or imitation all crap quality), wiper blades, clock spring, air filter.

Oils I only buy at trusted retailer. Petrol Station, authorized dealer, service center.

So far the most nasty thing i did was harvesting leftover ATF oil from scraped transmission oil cooler by turning them upside down to let it drip into a cup then pour it into my crap waja power steering reservoir, it was leaking big time, no point getting new oil.

Important parts and expensive ones I don't buy online.

If cheap stuff like wheel caps or accessories, yes, I buy online.

I usually go to Bay Brothers at PJ to get my car parts, there are many shops and car workshops too.

You can see many taxi drivers frequenting there because it is cheap.

Brake pad ori brembo from mall seller Emerald.
Steering rack just use anshin just for temporary use, ori rack rebuild for future use.

Never trust those ads as original part. Mostly fake…except from mall seller.

Just google around your place for steering rack rebuild. Most probaly they just replace the bush and lubricant cost rm 80 labour and bush rm 27.

Engine mounting still in good condition.

Don't bother rebuild la. Not worth the risk just to save some money. Save up and go buy china rack also better if you got limited budget

The steering rack most of the time is the bush and the plastic thing worn out right? Once they change ur steering rack, they rebuild and recycle to the market wei.

Personally for major parts like rack , engine mounting etc I'll go straight for original. Steering rack is more than just bush and plastic one, got other components especially if it's electronic kind.

If you think about it it's still cheaper than buying new car and paying instalment. Don't bother recon rebuild all those, you may end up paying more in the long run for labour / buy parts again

Best option is still get original. I'm sure the original that came with the car lasted quite long for you ? You can save elsewhere like tie rod, rack end , etc.

It is my 1st car in my life. So i dont know when it started.
The dilemma now is, the mechanic quote me ori part for 1.6k. But as i have ask so far, the ori part got few places of production, thailand, china, and japan origin with their different price tag. So i am in confuse which to choose.
And also for my car service center, i have caught them not doing the services before....since then i service my car myself. LoL. Change ma eo, gearbox oil, brake oil, my brake shoe, tyre rotation, ma absorber. Lol.

what car you driving? Why not just go straight to spare part shop and ask for original steering rack? bring it over to him or other workshop for labour only.

If your mechanic don't want to do, i have a kampung subang mechanic that is more than willing to help u change (near subang airport)

Original or not me no idea lah but first thing i do is visit the category feature, then if i see the category setting still using the default category setting then is a sign for me a fake shop,

because if Bavarian Auto got official of course they have a man power they'll do things like Bosch auto parts the category is properly named and separately unlike the Bavarian Auto you mentioned the category is like pasar malam everything in one basket if i were you i probably avoid at all costs .

Usually all workshop are willing to do, just covered them the labour fee.
What the workshop really dislike is, tauke complain many clients bring their Shopee bought brakepad, brakedisc to install
Then complain workshop after 1 week say got yik yik sound when tekan brake

They usually will say dont provide after-sales follow up when clients bring their parts
because those fucking customers really entitled to the max

If the physical shop then yes you can worry free if shopee or lazada you really need to call and ask to confirm .

gm6 is super duper common car and easily can buy spare parts outside at physical shop. If you got doubt go and ask them what's the difference, most of the spare part guys are more than willing to explain to me what they know

but generally

original - expensive but if the original lasted u at least 7 years, rest assured you'll gonna get similar lifespan out of it. All original parts NO warranty

Third party - China / Thailand / Taiwan/ Etc - very tempting in terms of pricing , can be easily less than half the price. Has warranty but usually after few years you will start to hear some weird sound or some parts starting to break. I have not personally bought it because i am lazy to go workshop again to remove and replace. I feel this is a good option if (1) it's for your 2nd car (2) low mileage car (3) budget is really a big problem till you don't have money to makan already

Third party - Japan - This is usually priced somewhere between ori and china/thailand/taiwan stuff. E.g. Sankei 555 the original ones are made in japan. If budget is issue and can't get original, this is my 2nd choice. No warranty as well.

When in doubt, make your own, confirm more original than original
