KUALA LUMPUR: Johor is exploring ways to implement a minimum monthly wage of RM4,000 for its people as part of efforts to boost economic well-being.
In a Facebook post, Regent of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said other areas for the state government to monitor include affordable housing, job opportunities, and state infrastructure.
"It has been a great week. There have been more positive developments this week, and more are expected in the coming months in Johor's economy, education, defence, and sports.
"I have advised the state to closely monitor affordable homes, job opportunities, and state infrastructure.
"We are also looking at ways to strategise a minimum wage of RM4,000 for Bangsa Johor," he said.
Johor is set to see transit-oriented developments around major stations, selective increases in residential and commercial property values and improved connectivity for high-value and time-sensitive industries following the launch of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd's (KTMB) Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) between Kuala Lumpur Sentral and Johor Baru today.
Economists believe that the southern electric line was also expected to generate immediate economic spillovers in tourism, retail and local commerce, particularly in areas surrounding ETS stations.
