The concept of work life balance is a rather modern thing. However, if you think about it deeper, older gen workers are having more work life balance than the current gen workers.
While older gen workers have much less flexibility cause they work 9-6 with no option to deviate, they mostly only work within the hours stated in the contract if not just a hour or two more OT.
The current gen workers, whilst having more freedom on the hours, they work a lot more hours because of the WFH arrangement. A lot of them who have a sense of responsibility often had to work during the weekends or even their holiday because of the new mobility setup.
With so many graduates and so many wanting to do white collar jobs, those who don't give a piss often ended up being replaced.
Gone are the days where after office hour, annual leave and weekends means personal time.
Older gen of course have work life balance now when they are higher up the ladder. Back then they need to work hard too to climb Then again back then the older gen parents aren't middle class parents that eat out weekly, so, there wasn't a work life balance to compare to. Everyone worked hard back then.
Different kinda balance... Older gen work pia until they retire young then have life go travel and all New gen YOLO so work and travel all together, but have to work longer before can afford retire

no such thing as retire young, nowadays 70s+ still working...cannot realized and thn realized not only no money, your body has no strength to travel anymore + time is running out
and no need baby boomers the newer gen like millenials and gen-z has found that out in a very hard way
Treasure job security more than anything b4 u lose it, cos your life will be upside down, definitely not balance.
trust me, there are a lot of jobs today that it's actually better you lose it
putting job security > all including having to deal with toxic everything is not good...not even good for your career progression too let alone your health, mental health and time
