my 1st home PC is acer aspire yo.. imagine in 1995 spend almost rm6k on pc + printer + altec lansing speaker + dial-up modem + joypad/joystick..

This is nothing compared to my IBM PC XT 8Mhz + 640Kb RAM with shiny new CGA monitor with state-of-the-art 10MB Seagate HDD. The price will bring tears to the eyes in late 80's.

640Kb RAM was considered luxury then, when 512KB was already expensive. 384Kb was the norm!

And yeah, CGA graphics was a "huge" upgrade from from monochrome geaphics adapter and monitor.

My first PC was a 80286 AT PC back, with EGA monitor (how many still remember or ever heard of this resolution?), 40MB HDD (~ RM1000 back then), 8 bit dot matrix printer. Total cost was around RM4k+.

There was a "turbo" button to change the CPU frequency - very useful when playing tetris game :-)

Computers haven't really become cheaper if you take mid range prices. But the entry level devices have gotten heck of a lot cheaper and they are a lot more usable compared to last time

My first PC came with DOS, MS-DOS or DR-DOS.

WordStar, Work Perfect, Lotus123....... All Text based application, no such thing as WYSIWYG - those only came when Windows was introduced.

I had this many decades ago. It was a good PC with TV tuner and FM radio. Unfortunately, the VGA card is not compatible with many DOS games.

Originally came with Windows 3.x and I upgraded to Windows 95 OSR2 with the restore CD ordered from IPC Singapore.

Eventually, I upgraded the mobo to Asus TX-5 which has support for AMD K6. The stock mobo only supported Pentium 120MHz.

I still have the manuals though and would like to collect it again.

my parent's pc was olivetti intel 386, iinm macam rm6k like that. It was used for work though.

Reminds me of desktop trends....

1990s-2000 = Large beige desktops with huge CRT monitors
2000s-2010 = Black glossy desktops with LCD screens becoming more common
2010-2020 = Aquarium Desktop with lots of RGB
2020 till now = wood accent desktops

Those PC desktop speakers back then are also very nostalgic.
Even today I'm using desktop speakers that look quite similar to it lol.
