Over 40,000 join Miri City Christmas Parade 2025

MIRI (Dec 7): The Miri City Christmas Parade 2025 drew over 40,000 of participants and spectators on Saturday night, reaffirming its role as one of the city’s strongest symbols of unity, harmony and shared community spirit.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in his officiating speech, said the annual celebration has evolved far beyond a festive procession.

According to him, the celebration, which has become a proud tradition in Miri for the past 15 years, is not just a parade of lights, music and colours but a symbol of unity, peace and goodwill among the people of Miri, regardless of race, religion or background.

He added that the parade serves as a reminder that Sarawak’s greatest strength lies in its diversity and its people’s ability to celebrate one another’s culture and faith with mutual respect.

“It reminds us that Sarawak’s strength lies in our diversity — in our ability to come together and celebrate one another’s faith and culture with mutual respect,” he said.

His speech text was read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who represented him at the event.

This would not appear in peninsula states easily, I believe.

Therefore indeed a good cause to celebrate and be happy about.

peace unity masked the corruption, yike

Meanwhile for this though, I think Sarawak has done very well in comparison to many other states

1. Free tertiary public education for Sarawakians.
2. Heavily subsidized medical and treatment fees in public hospital or healthcare institutions for Sarawakians.
3. Sarawak now has a major stake in Bank, allowing pathway to fully owning a state bank.
4. Sarawak now has a port that belongs to the state.
5. Sarawak now has her own sovereign future / pension fund.
6. Sarawak now has her own airlines.
7. Sarawak also has completed majority of her infrastructure projects and more to come.

Corruption, we gotta wait for prosecution to act. But even with corruption, Sarawak has done more than states that claims to have "no corruption". Especially with the barrage of news on federal level.

Then it might be a very appealing country for non-bumi from peninsular to migrate to. Me included.

Sorry to splash cold water on your hopes

But even right now, its quite difficult to be a citizen there

Even for Sabahans

But hey not all hopes are lost, they are starting to snowball, they will need talents

If Singapore can and still demand talents - Degree holders etc

Don't see why not

Got five year visa for experts of their fields.

Exactly, although this 5 years expert visa is an eligible route

But its attainable only by those that can meet the requirements

General random tom dick & harry would not be able to just waltz in

That said, routes like these, would eventually benefit the state in filtering its migrants

I am glad to hear that! Hopefully this would help you in your future financial endeavors and I pray for your future journey!

Hopefully you will be able to continue contributing to Sarawak & Sabah's local community and the state, and eventually country. Help make this a better place!

Keep up the good work!

Without Taliban oso, can a Muslim renounce his/her faith in Sarawak? So there u hav it.

I think there has been quite a few cases where it is actually done.

But even so, I have to say, the direct association or participation of religion actually does not reflect the main issue when people talk about religion.

I think they would be primarily referring to "religious harmony" whereby as what you have seen on the first post, Sarawak & Sabah does have different religions living and practicing, celebrating religious events together harmoniously.

I remember a PKR leaders has openly say they wanted to abolish Sarawak's autonomy in immigration.

I think I missed out on one of your replies, my apologies about that.

But honestly speaking, they can really try.

So far no in-roads though.

In politic, never say never.

What IF more Sarawakian has voted for Sarawak DAP or PKR etc? And Federal in the hand of DAP/PKR?
*
True, never say never.

Until then, we shall see. But at this rate, don't say influencing Sarawak, they might even lose their own grip in Peninsula if what they are now doing is perceived as not enough.

At the rate Sarawak is progressing, I doubt they will ever penetrate Sarawak enough while losing Sabah faster than they can gain them.

About your Najib comments on his credits, I will be honest in saying that I cannot neutrally verify his "contributions" as of now and in an unbiased manner so I cannot agree with you entirely.

But I will give you this, there has to be at least some credit due somewhere. I will acknowledge in due time after verifying independently.

For now, as I am aware of your political standing, I cannot openly or wholeheartedly agree to your previous statements.

Thank you for pointing out though.

REGARDLESS of my opinion, I prefer to deal with FACTS that many of the 95% nons who voted for Tun refuse to deal with.

If you want to understand how Najib became the BEST THING that ever happened to Sarawak, here is the answer. It all started when Najib abolished the 1969 Emergency Proclamation in 2012 that remove Federal's hold on Sarawak's continental shelf.

Thanks for showing one of the points that helps with my reading.

I shall get to it and see if I can agree if indeed Najib is the best thing that happened to Sarawak. I will be fair and neutral in my readings.

It's because Malaya agreed to it in 1963.

Just because Malaya don't like it now doesn't mean they can remove that clause in MA63. Unless a new agreement is signed, MA63 stands
*
This though, I can agree wholeheartedly.

It's simply because MA63 is a ratified and executed agreement. Not anyhow suka then apply don't like complain then it will be gone.

As you rightly said, unless a new agreement is signed, MA63 will continue to stand.
