Nah I used arch be4 at first the shining all customizable feeling oh yeah and but then the headache after new update and troubleshooting really not worth it, back to start Mtint

of course if this is your only system then Mint is more suitable.

Arch is like making your own furniture vs buying ready made. It's not meant to be easy and you have to know what you are doing or are willing to spend hours learning and experimenting. If you want easy go Ubuntu or some popular distro. If you want source code level control, LFS.

I came back to windows due to how fucked up and unfixable the font rendering was in Linux... On windows my scaling is 150% and that's ngam² sharp like tab size font size all sharp

When Linux, tried all custom shits and experimental la this la that la install old font package la...scaling is horrendous, a beautiful pc with a horrendous UI and so I switched back to windows. Its peaceful now

Yes. Fonts are superior on Windows. There is even a wizard to help you optimize the font appearance.

On Linux probably not as good, but you can get close. I followed this many years back. TLDR, font hinting and antialiasing. https://www.oldforum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=10576

But nowadays, the fonts are pretty decent out of the box. Try to lower down the hinting if your fonts start to look blurry.

If getting Thinkpad, any used t4xx series is good. Linux Mint for beginners.

I prefer x series because its small enough to bring around

I kept my t430 until about a year ago, mostly usable running Win 10, even the battery can last 2 hours +.

Dunno why people want to go back to the T420 keyboard though.

The only issue is I encounter more and more videos that I cannot playback because of no HEVC support. I also do some transcoding. Have migrated to 6th gen CPUs for minimal HEVC support. X260 and E41. I just spilled some plain water on the X260 keyboard 2 days ago, now a few keys not working, they don't make it like they used to.....

That key is nicer to type. I don’t recommend it for multimedia though.

Using my x230 in Linux mostly to type docs and coding

This I agree, though up to x270, the battery bulges out and the flat battery is quite rare. And it has the powerbridge to run 2 batteries. I haven't found a machine with the internal battery though.

That's the reason I don't buy the shopee batteries, they don't last that long, difficult to find used original batteries still in good condition.

But I really like the Lenovos for their upgradability since a few generations (or even different models) will usually share common parts. The X260 battery I harvested from a dead T460.
